Long par four and I have a 205 yard approach. I hit 3H and ball was fading slightly and appeared to hit the green and run off the right side. Looked for a few mins and couldn't believe that I couldn't find it. Just as I'm about to give up I find the ball on a recessed sprinkler head just off the fringe. Chipped in for birdie!

215 par 3, reached with my Hybrid, but caught the hill and it rolled all the way back to the other side of the green leaving me about an uphill 75 footer, with about a 3’ break right.

got it to die into the cup for the bird. Booya!

Stuck an 8 iron to 2 feet on an elevated par 3 this morning.  And, yes, I made the putt.

Had 178 to front pin into the wind. Really wanted to hit 6i but the wind was picking up due to storm moving in. Opted for 5i and left it 6 inches for a bird attempt. Swing and the feel of the shot was buttery smooth and I almost needed a smoke after I hit it.  

 

Oh, made the putt.

Yesterday - Par 4, 305 yards. Bad drive, with 155 yards to go,  my 9 wood got me to with 4 ft of the pin and then a short putt for a bird. .

Instead of shot of the day I'm enjoy my putting renaissance. Went from 36 to around 30 putts and started to roll in multiple 10-12 footers and nearly make 80 percent of 5 footers. The best one was probably the five footer on two that broke 3 inches and went dead center. Set the stage for a lovely round until I got tired.

Hole 3 par 5, I hit my first tee shot OB, then hit the same 3 wood to about 260, then hit the 3 wood again to 10 feet, missed the par putt by a mile, but it was a good bogey. 

The shot selection was 3 wood (OB), 3 wood, 3 wood, putt, putt. For an easy 6.

Yesterday, hit my second shot on a par 5 (#5 at Hubbard golf Course at Hill AFB) to ~2’ and made my first-ever eagle.

Two nice approaches that I'll count as a tie for today. 

No. 9, 467-yard par 5. Had a bad drive so was scrambling to save par. 50 yards out, right rough. Ball sitting up but in heavy grass. Pulled my 54 degree and landed on front of green accounting for roll out. Ball rolled right up and just past the cup. At this point there was still dew on the grass, and my ball kissed the left edge as it went by. Tap in for par.

No. 17, 415-yard par 4. Pulled my drive OB left, provisional sitting 145-150 yards just off fairway right. 9-iron to about 3 feet. Tap in bogey.

So I birdied back to back holes today but honestly my shot of the day came off the tee on 16 at my club, the Bayou.

It’s the signature hole of a Tom Fazio course. 170 over the corner of the bayou - 160 of it carry at this time of the year it’s a blind shot in that you see none of the green,only the pin. From that tee it looks as if it’s sitting in the middle of reeds.

The guy playing with me has played as my guest 3 or 4 times the past 4 years but never on the bridge side. His comment was, “I’m not hitting from here. You’re even on this side. Are you nuts?”

Out came the 9 wood!

Pin was front right - awful spot, a full 165 carry over the Bayou, miss right and you are dead, left, survive the Bayou and you are rewarded with a 40 foot putt across a ridge, the specter of the bayou still there if it’s hit too firmly.

I hit a high, high shot that landed on the left middle of the green and stayed on the front tier.

30 feet, rolled it just past and made the 3 foot call me backer for par.

That 9 wood was my shot of the day - never doubted that it was the right club or that I would execute the shot.

Par 5 pulled my teeshot low left bullet, it went pretty far, across the adjacent fairway almost to the far rough. 

For my 2nd shot, the pin was about 220 but blocked by trees.  The trees were about 165.  I figured if I went for a 3w and didnt get all of it, it might die and go under the trees some and run up or leave me a good 3rd shot.  If it hit trees it would drop and I'd have a good 3rd shot. I choked down an inch. Ok, easy swing.  Sure.  I flushed it slight left to right fade, up and over the trees, one bounce on the green, inside 10 feet.  

Made the putt for my first ever eagle. ‍‍‍‍‍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.

It didn't help my round much, lol.  I had some blowup holes, 47 for 9.

well, for a short fat old guy anyways... the consistent distance on the mizzies is letting me go after shots with confidence

On 17, I hit my approach shot to 3 feet and made birdie.  

 

ON 18, I had 105 to the pin, caught a gap wedge thin, but it hit the flag and dropped down a foot from the hole.  I tapped in for birdie.  

 

Great way to end the round.

I always end up playing our #1 par 4 conservatively generally opting to take the long way around a 350 yd slight dogleg left with water on the right and the green protected by large deep bunkers. Figure a safe bogie is better then being in the water or playing out of the bunkers.

Went out with my wife today to play and told her I'm tired of playing it safe. Ended up being on in 2 but missed the putt for a birdie. Still a 4 is better than a 5.

Chipped in for birdie on this hole after pushing my tee shot just a hair. It took a hop off the back edge of the second bunker and ended up farther right and long than I had planned (9 iron for me is usually 160). Had a lie with the ball about 6 inches above my feet but sitting up nice an fluffy. It took one bounce just on the green and checked perfectly before rolling right into the heart of the cup!

9i, 170... .  I hit an 8i flier 195 once.  Lol. Thats my 140 club

Haha yea length has never been an issue. When I was in better shape pre-kids, I could consistently get about 175 or so out of 9 iron.

Tee shot on a par 4 where there's swampy junk not once, but twice on the hole. You have to cross 2 separate bridges to get to the green, and the first muck is around 230 out. Some days I can carry that with driver and some days I can't. Today was one of those days where the driver wasn't on and I knew better so I pulled my Heavenwood and just hit a beauty that rolled out to about 210 in perfect position. Left the approach short and then bladed the chip over the green.

Sick.  The heavenwood... that's a 7 or 9 wood Callaway?

7 wood with a 4 wood shaft. Mine is actually cut down 1 inch (bought it used) and it's my security blanket. It's the only wood that I have near 100% confidence when I grab it.

This damn 7w I got just continues to impress. Had two long approaches I hit with it today, both from the 180 mark or so. Both started well left and faded beautifully right and were like lasers toward the flags. Both wound up rolling past and were long, but I'll take those shots any day when faced with using my 5i instead. Man I love this club!!!

My shot of the day was a 143 yard 8 iron from the rough, for eagle. That shot made my day.... and I couldn't have cared less about my score after that! 

I birdied the hole before that and parred the last hole, which is called the hardest finishing hole in Stark County (Ohio). Pretty good day!
