7i from 148 out. Downhill shot into the green and I just pured it. If it only kicked forward instead of to the right... Sank the putt for birdie.

Actually from last Thursday at Arcadia Bluffs South Course. Three shots of the day in succession. Playing partners told me I could reach this green from the tee. I think “No Way”, but go for it anyway. Reach front right bunker, abt 298 away (Shot 1). Then, hit a beautiful short bunker shot (2) to about five feet. I have already three putted FIVE times, and FOUR putted once today. Can you say “Fast!” and “gun shy”? Anyway, made the putt (3) for my only birdie of the day. Go play Arcadia if you have not. Spectacular.

Missed the green to the left due to shaping the shot wrong with my A wedge. This put me in a poor position 15 feet below the green. Grabbed the 60° out and holed the chip. Also missed an eagle chip on a par 5 by an inch or that would have been my best of the day.

I hit my best shot of the year in today's round.  

 

Number 16 at Bent Tree in Council Bluffs, is a drivable par four.  295 yards, protected by bunkers left and right with a narrow opening in front.  I normally lay up, but went for it today.  It was down hill and down wind.  

 

I hit driver to 10 inches.  (For a while there, we thought it might go in.)  Tap in eagle.   

 

A lot of fun.  Only my fourth eagle, second on a par four.

Hole of the day for me, hole 12, par 5.

Started out with a really good drive, 258 yards right side of fairway. That's a good distance for me.

Followed up with a terrible 4W from the fairway, almost in someone's front yard. 

Had a good line to the hole from the rough, hit a good SW onto the green.

Missed the long birdie putt, but made par.

I posted this on the 'HOW DID YOU PLAY TODAY ' thread. My shot of the day was on a 155 par 3 over water to within 4 ft of the pin. Sank it for a birdie.

18th hole long par 5.  Into a slight breeze.  Bombed my Honma driver, had 230 to the pin.  I hit a smoked low 4 iron to the front edge that rolled to 20 ft for an easy 2 putt birdie to tie the match.

And get this:  It took me less that 4 minutes (closer to 20 seconds) to figure out the wind and how I wanted to play the shot before I pulled the trigger.

The range at the public course is closed all week, so I ran out to play a quick 9. I wasn’t paying attention to score, just swinging my clubs, and after the first hole, I figured I’d play my big draw I have going on right now. Add a nice draw to some hard and fast fairways, and it’s a mixture for long drives! The longest measured over 380! Here are the pics . You can see how hard  and dry the fairways and rough are on 18! Hey, it counts!!!!!

Played Fossil Trace in Denver.  Supposed to be the knees here, and I finally played it. A little pricey and very gimmicky, but overall good, and I will return.  

Shot of the day was a 481 par 4.  My drive went left and pretty short, leaving me with 225. I had to bend it right to left around some trees with a deathly deep bunker right of the green.  Pulled off a high drawing 4 iron around the trees and away from the bunker that left me 15 ft for bird.  Missed the putt, of course

This is a tough one - it could be the two 8 footers that I made for par early in the round.

Instead I’m going with the 10 finger grip drive on 8. I don’t exactly know why I chose to do it on that particular hole. Usually I save that grip for when I need a big one and that wasn’t needed there. But I hit it and had a career drive from that set of tees - there are 5 tee boxes on 8, 4 of which I play from regularly.

After that drive I employed a 10 finger grip for all of my wood shots the rest of the way even the 2 par 5 fairway wood layups. Hit all of them solid and straight.

I’m going to experiment more with that grip. Could be a half round fluke or a game changer for me.

I never hit one like this before in over 40 years of playing so even though it ended up bad I'll list it.....

It started out great as a nutted power draw with the driver curving right back to the middle of the fairway following the shape of the dogleg left.....Just like I wanted......

I have visions of a 120 yd wedge shot to the green dancing in my head.....Just like I wanted.....

There is some sun glare coming at us so its not all that clear but I think I see a flash of white dart to the right across the fairway through the narrow rough and into the trees.....hmmmm...

About in the middle of that vision I hear a hollow sounding DOINK as the sound waves reach us at the tee......what the heck.......

I then realize I flew it into the 4' tall, 3" pvc pipe that stands in the middle of the fairway as the 150 marker.....a hard ricochet into the trees.....uuugghhhhhh..... 

First time I ever hit what I was aiming at!  Went from a wedge into the green to a 4i punch out into a muddy sand trap and ended with a double bogey and a bad attitude for a couple holes.

Oh Well.....such is golf.....at least it felt great coming off the face!

The F9 fairways I picked up recently, I have the same thoughts about. I'm losing a little distance on average with them against the driver, but man, they find the fairway. I'm at 67 and 62 percent respectively with them.

Can’t even be mad about a few yards with those fairway percentages. I’m at 50% with 46% left. I’m ecstatic

That's awesome! That shot you hit was a bomb. Being able to take one side out of the equation off the tee makes a huge difference in scoring and confidence.

My SOTD was an 8i from 138 on this par 3. Tap in birdie. 
 

 

My son’s SOTD was this pitch from behind those trees right to here. He started walking up with his bag, saw where he landed and immediately yelled “you better take a picture of that!!”

geeze I wish I could remember hitting it that long... I wish they had the clubs they do now when I was capable of hitting them long hhehe...

My shot of the day was the 5 birdies my Evnroll drained today. All from 5-10 feet. I just pretended I was DJ, well a short , old, fat version anyways. I just picked a line and trusted them to go, and they did...

Funny thing is, I’m 51, and have hit drives further the last few years than I did in college! I hit balls 320-330 in college with a small Golfsmith steel headed driver with a Dynamic Gold X100 shaft! Ha! Yep. If only we had then what we have now! Balls included!!!

Well, you've got 13 years on me , (or the other way around?)....the beginning of my slippage started at around 45, (old by professional standards) say 20 years ago when I first popped a disc in my lower back. I think I was a hot shot with a Titleist 975D, and I could hit that about 300+ on a good hit. and it had a little tiny sweet spot !! I was an actual persimmons guy in the way back. I broke many of them as they were probably getting old and tired, and I was a young powerhouse.

Makes ya wonder how far the Hogans and Sneads etc would have hit the new equipment. Probably not as far as the workout warriors of today, but they would have been deadly.

Getting old is a natural process, but I understand why bazillions$$ were spent,  searching for the "fountain of youth" way back in the day, The stoopid wealthy didn't want to die, cuz they were on top of the world and wanted to stay there. Now my main focus is "staying alive, staying alive!!

Best shot of the day was off hole #1. Started with a perfect 4 iron off the tee and then hit PW to 4 ft from the pin. Love an easy tap in birdie to start the day!

2nd hole, drove a slice into the rough in front of the 3rd hole tee box. 

Hit a clean 48°, 111 yards over the trees into the green, absolutely towering shot. The best full wedge shot I've hit ever. 

Two putted for par.

 Best shot of the day was a 145 yard 9 iron to 3 feet. And then i proceeded to miss the 3 footer.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad, great shot with the 9 iron and try not to think annoy the putt. Getting it that close from 145 is a heckuva shot!
