Missed a hole in one by “this much” this afternoon 😳

174 yard par 3 hit a smooth 6 iron and it never left the flag.

From my round on Monday at Pacific Dunes, probably my most technically difficult shot that was well executed was a bunker shot where the ball on the downslope of one of the bunker with no room for my to stand in the bunker. I couldn't play it on my knees from above, a bit too steep, might have fallen in. So I sort of squatted and hit the ball and made it out of the bunker fine.

My most memorable shots of the day were a 5 iron on 10 and a 5 iron on 11, both par 3s, hitting the green on both, and making par on both. Hole 11 was 130 yards playing like 180 yards. Never played in such windy conditions before.

Such a frustrating round today.  Overall, a terrible scoring round. It did have 4 great shots though.

On hole 3.  I laced a 54* from 96 yards and just stuffed it pin high (naturally missed the 10' putt).

Next Tee box on 4.  I ripped a 310 yd drive straight down the middle.  Just a ripped drive!

0?ui=2&ik=ffd933a12c&attid=0.1&permmsgid=msg-f:1709910882077740422&th=17bad2e343d18d86&view=fimg&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ_l_6SNMFFcstyRxyr2CAd31aqosRe1zNPbraxxDwQMsE7qk8jUk7M_sLZJ_lgqKtg0Sw_ykkn30ZIgp2Rm-goGUPaRyuuBJSMfXa54SVBmi1SYx4nqSWlQ6uk&disp=emb

Couple holes later I laced a 3W straight down the middle .  Out drove my playing partner by a good thirty yards.  Felt nice!

0?ui=2&ik=ffd933a12c&attid=0.2&permmsgid=msg-f:1709910882077740422&th=17bad2e343d18d86&view=fimg&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ8kfqqLfjfG26A-UUTjSn37S9IOKBw-52ZEMnoKE7WDmiWrlUExenO-OW0VZI7LmgeUwPCKr2ChQUWa9Q2-zM0LMQDLQI8PhLGYrTY6zaa1TEaKVA60RTdoQ4w&disp=emb

Final hole is a terrible Par 3 that drives me crazy.  I missed the green to a tight sidehill lie.  I hit a little open faced chip with my 58*.  It landed above the hole and trickled past the pin about 3'  Hit the comeback and left it 1" short.  It was fun to hit a technical touch shot and pull it off!

I was in the trees about 90 yards from the green with a bunker directly between me and the pin.  The smart play would be to hit a lateral pitch back onto the fairway but I've never been mistaken for smart.  On suggestion from my playing partner, I lined up with the ball on my back foot and delofted the heck out of my 7 iron.  I blasted a stinger that never went more than five feet above the ground and hit the lip on the back of the bunker, which popped the ball up and rolled to a stop about ten feet from the pin.  (Sighs) I proceeded to two-putt it for a triple.  But WOW what a shot!  I'll never do that again in a million years.

After a great round we all got drunk at the bar.  This looks over the green on one of the holes.  We were hammered and went out and took a dump on the green.  Man it was funny.  Don't recommend doing this but it was super funny.

Hammered enough to forget the picture overlooking the green…..

Played in a tournament on Saturday. Shot of the day came on a Par 5 on the back 9. Hooked my drive into the woods and had a window to get my ball out into the fairway 85 yards from the green.

Pin was back and had a slight breeze into the face. Took a high full 56* wedge that hit the pin on the way down. Landed 6 inches from the cup and rolled to 4 feet. Did my best to miss the birdie putt, but it snuck in anyway. Can't remember the last time I hit the pin on something longer than a chip.

On the 9th hole, sitting 1 over par I was in this bunker with the green running away and toward a pond. Ball severely below my feet, I got my hands as low as I could and opened up my lob wedge, gave it a thump and trickled down to tap in range for par!

I hit a chip for a birdie today.  I've come to the realization this week that I need to stop getting cute with my wedges on the course and stick with what I know.  When I get within about 20 yards of the green, my pitching wedge is my best club; I have more control over it than any other club.  I pulled it out to chip one in from about this far (my distance perception is terrible so I'm not sure how far):

It wasn't probably the best shot of the round, but the one I had really been tinkering with over the last 4 weeks, the low flighted 40-50 yard pitch shot, stuck it to 5 feet and hit the birdie putt. Its been an issue where if I want to take advantage of some of the distance off the tee on short part 4's I need to execute those shots from 40-70 yards when I can't hit full wedge shots in.

Not so much a shot of the day but a hole of the day.  Hole 16 at River Heights always seems to give me the yips.  I generally end up in the circled area off to the right if I dont completely shank it.  Yesterday was different though.    Hit this one right down Broadway and then hit my 3W well, though it tailed to the right a bit.  Hit a 60° flop that carried with the wind and stopped on a dime about ten feet from the pin.  Holed the putt.  Each of those things individually don't happen very often and to pull them off in one sequence was a real joy!

played a scramble today at a really nice club in stamford ct

par 5 14th hole playing 560. my partners drive left us 290 out sitting in the first cut

we decided the best play was for the shorter hitter in the group to hit a safe iron about 175 and for the two longer guys to pull 3w and go for it.

plan worked to perfection. first guy hit a great 7i to the middle of the fairway. second guy hit a good 3w but tugged it a little and ended up about 50 yards short in the left rough.

i hit last and hit potentially the best 3w of my life. took off like a bullet starting about 10 yards left of the green and cut back to the middle. hit the apron leading to the green and rolled up to the collar.

if it hadn’t rained all morning, it would’ve rolled right up to the middle of the green

9th hole this evening is a sharp dogleg left. Trying to draw my drive, I pushed it right and it got caught up in some trees. Left me with 256 to the middle of the green, with a back pin. Hit an absolute laser beam, probably the best off the deck hybrid I've ever hit (second best came two holes earlier!).

It pitched about 5 yards on the green and rolled back to about a 20 foot putt. Two putt for par, and one of my least likely greens in reg I've ever hit!

During my last round...2 shots on the same hole.

Been struggling with driver so decided to leave it out of the bag as we don't have really long holes and I'm hitting my hybrids pretty well.

6th hole, 430y par 4, elevated tee with a narrow fairway.

19° 816 H1, struck it sweet straight down the middle. As I was playing on my own I didn't wait to see it stop as I knew it was safe. Kept strolling down the fairway, can't see the ball where I thought it would be so walked a little further and there it was. Garmin to middle of the green was saying 107 so 323 yard drive 😮

Pushed the wedge slightly off the side of the really tricky green. I've been practicing this sort of shot with my 52° and felt I could get close. Came out perfect, landed exactly where I wanted to and rolled dead centre of the hole, last half a roll it dropped - a bit like Tiger on the 16th 🐯

Gave myself a little fist pump 😆

flew it long and used the backstop long and right of the hole to funnel the ball down to 8 feet.

made the putt for bird!

My shot of the day yesterday at River Heights was my tee shot on 14.  Not only did I hit it further than I ever have, I managed to keep it in the fairway as well.  More than anything else this year, my driver has come a long way.  A couple months ago I was lucky to hit it 200 yards.  This time it went over 290.

My weekday group tries to play a different course every week. This means we usually suffer on the local knowledge aspect. Today we played Lassing Pointe, in northern Kentucky (Golf Digest's #1 public course in KY). None of us could figure out the greens. They were smooth and consistent, but just subtle enough that we were flummoxed. Other than one unexpected 25' birdie for me, I don't remember anyone making anything over about 6' all day. The last is a par 4 that is famous for it's 100 yard deep green. Today the pin was back, so from our tee it was a robust 460 yard hole, a little downhill, but into the wind. I hit my only bad drive, and was blocked from even seeing the green unless I hooked it 80 yards. I laid up, but pushed that, so now my line to the pin was blocked. I "took my medicine", and hit it where I could onto that massive green, but a long way away. One of us was on in two, but even farther away, maybe 100', and as was typical for our day, left it 25' short. I had 92' (stepped it off after), with the line skirting the edge of the fringe for the first 20'. When that putt went in all of us just burst out laughing! I had a great ball striking day, but under the circumstances that putt was the shot of the day!

No pictures or anything this time around, but SOTD is between a 3-iron on #9, or a putt on #11.

#9 - Par 5: Sliced my drive off the tee and ended on top of a hill right of the cart path. The lie was bare and compacted, but I had a clear shot and lots of room so I pulled the 3 out. Contact was good, but the flight was a bit lower than expected. Didn't matter though, the ball landed short, bounced on, and rolled out to the back of the green. Two putts for birdie 😄.

#11 - Par 5: Hit a great tee shot up the left edge of the fairway, then laid up in front of some bunkers with my 6-iron. From there I hit my 50* GW to the left side of the green (pin on the front right). I was a little above the hole and 30~ feet away, but I noticed a small spot of dead grass a few feet before the hole that looked like it would be the right line. I struck the putt well, rolled it right over that spot, and caught the right edge for birdie 😄.

Two birdies in a round is pretty rare for me so it was really fun to get those two so close together!

Hit a good drive, had 164 to hole with a head wind. Hit my 5 hybrid, put it on the front of green. Best shot I have hit in a while.
