What was your Shot of the Day?

Sluggo42

Recommended Posts

My Ginty Trouble Club does not get much use, last year maybe used twice in 92 rounds.  This year it was out of the bag for 4 shots last week and today again for a couple shots, all in rough where an iron is not going to get enough punch and regular hybrids are going to be grabbed by the grass losing critical clubhead speed at contact.  Its 39* clubface is just the thing to get out of the rough and back onto the short grass.

The second and last time today was between two rounded mounds just off the left side of the fairway, 13th hole Transit Valley CC in Amherst, NY.  Short rough for sure but directly in the bottom of the saddle of the mounds, the Ginty with its boat hull inspired V shaped sole made clean contact and soared the ball onto the approach to the green some 110 yards or so away.

One of those shots that is amazing while flying high and straight, satisfying when it lands and rolls closer to the green, and fills the heart with a knowing the right club was in hand for a shot that will keep me returning for more opportunities for the next time the club can work its magic 🥰

Maybe not the most technically difficult shot, but I managed to end up in the wrong side of this incredibly intimidating bunker. Took this picture after the shot and threw my glove down where the ball was - I had opened up the face on my 58* and the flop shot landed just onto the green and rolled out to 2’ from the pin for the tap-in bogey save (there were a couple not-so-great shots that led up to this moment 😂).

Had to be either the drive on 7 or the 3wd, 2nd shot on 10.  The drive was a little down wind with a right to left push... perfect for that hole.  The 2nd shot on 10 was directly into the wind and I got lucky when the 3wd caught the ball a bit low on the face and came out hot.  It cut through the wind nicely and rolled up to about a yard shy of the green.  Chipped up with the putter and tapped in for my 2nd birdie of the day.

#11 par 4 at Windmill yesterday. Pushed my drive right into the rough near the tree but had a shot. Hit my PW 128 yards to 2 feet for a tap in birdie.

par 5 6th hole today.

found myself up against the lip of the bunker in front of an elevated green

i had to get the ball up, and fast.  couldn’t see the putting surface or the flag, so i picked a line based off of a tree behind the green.

ball came out high and soft and i knew it was on a good line.

after a few seconds i hear my brother in law go “SON OF A B*TCH!”

the ball pitched 4ft past the hole and spun back to 2ft for an easy par and a win on the gole.

Was about 110  out from light rough. Was a blind a shot because a hill was blocking view of the hole. Hit a PW to about 3 feet. Made the birdie putt.

Also blasted a 3 hybrid off the tee on another hole. Piercing with a tiny amount of draw. Went at least 220. First, normally I can't hit a hybrid. Second, even if i strike it ok, it doesn't go that far. The grip change i have been working on has suddenly given me the ability to hit a hybrid.

I've come to love the 6th at Greystone where I try to play most often.  It's 140 from the blue tees over water with the left side offering a proper bailout.  I like to play a cut off the left side and let it fall into the hole.  Wind was down and I chose a hard wedge over a soft 9 and hit a super pretty cut that landed about 4' from the pin.  Made my 2 and followed that up with a double on 7 🤦‍♂️

A very nice chip in birdie on #9 at Windmill. Drive wasn't the best and I smoked an 8 iron off the back and a long way from the hole, so I used the same 8 iron for a bump and run ...32 yards for the bird.

two shots today

first up: tee shot on the 430yd par 4 second hole. hit a great 3w up the right side of the fairway. there’s a huge slope over there at about 300yds that funnels down to the hole and back to the middle of the fairway. i must have caught that because i ended up 54 yards out for my second shot. that makes a 376yd 3w

next up was my 3rd shot on the par 5 3rd hole. blocked a 5i out to the right on my approach and ended up in the rough on a little hill just short of pin high. went with my 60* because there wasn’t a lot of green to work with. landed it a foot or two on, caught the ridge and funneled nicely to the hole for the best 3 words in golf: “tap in birdie”

Hit a 7i from 157 out that stopped within a foot of its pitch mark and left me a 4ft downhill putt for birdie.

Yesterday at Tupelo National, 2nd hole, 5 iron to 9 feet, made the birdie 96A47808-F5D6-4629-9283-0119BA7CC193.png.dc97267ecd9e3aa2069684101444811e.png3AC1F5CF-D0A3-44C5-9743-4E3E89334E34.jpeg.884c3eaf3128075e423202bf3dcb5aa9.jpeg62831938-40F1-4621-AB37-062548BAD389.jpeg.8d3daeef4b9f399977fb1b2afca1bd45.jpeg

Reached the 530 yd par 5 in 2 for the first time ever while deliberately playing down the previous hole's fairway (better angle versus going straight). Had 250 in and hit my 3W to 35 feet and two putted. Very satisfying to pull off back to back shots exactly how you pictured them.

Par 3, 174 yds to the pin. I was debating between 6 iron and 7 iron and told myself that I’ve been swinging to hard and trying to kill every shot. I decided that I needed to just swing smooth and go with the 6 iron. Tempo was good, ball felt perfect off the club face. Ball landed five feet past the hole and rolled out another four. Missed the birdie but made the par.

Best shot of the day was good enough to take a picture. Hit a pretty crappy tee shot on a par 4 and left myself about 170 left and I was on top of a hill in the rough. Stuck a 6 iron that landed on the right edge of the green and then it trickled toward the hole. Ended up about 5 feet from the hole. Made the birdie.

Hit an absolute MISSILE with the Super Hybrid! No wind, just a nice, firm fairway! I was a little nervous on the box because about 10 people were outside in a pool having a party, music, etc, right next to me. Hit the shot, and one guy yells, “Damn! Nice shot, Dude!” Best shot off the tee with the Super Hybrid I’ve had yet.AFB58B46-74F8-4B67-BE32-ACB8094857AF.jpeg.1fe3cf4fe4a000dcd6d0a2b413590056.jpeg
