Ball Marker / Divot Tool Display

Thought I'd share a DIY Ball Marker display I made a while back. I had been looking for one online, but never found exactly what I was looking for, which was a display with a full magnetic backing. All the displays I found had a single magnet per marker which I didn't want to deal with (and were also rather expensive). Instead, I took a picture frame and lined the entire glass with magnetic tape from home depot. I'll be needing to make a larger one pretty soon as I'm running out of space!

 

Picture frame laying around the house + $10 worth of magnetic tape = a display for all your little golf course mementos!

I was thinking about taking a ball for every course I play and doing something like this but a ball marker display looks a lot easier. I like this idea also and it doesn't sound very hard or time consuming

This is awesome. Other than pencils, markers are about the cheapest thing you can collect from a course and your display look is much more tidy than the standard giant ball display most guys have on their wall.

I only collect scorecards.. Which are proudly displayed in two shoeboxes😁😂🤣. Actually I collect golf balls too... Which are proudly displayed also in two shoe boxes and one ball display case.. Lol

Funny you should mention the standard giant ball display(s) on the wall.... That's what the ball marker display is sitting on top of! I grab a ball and marker from all the courses I play. I do admit that the markers are MUCH easier to deal with, and is the route I'd go if I had to do it over, but I'm too far in to turn back now with the ball displays...

I keep scorecards from each course I have played, started about 10 or 12 years ago and I have about 150 so that is inexpensive but there is no way I can display that many scorecards.  I like this idea in the OP.

I'm with you. Although I didn't really realize I collected them until I found a stash from pretty much all the "cool" courses I have played. Now I consciously keep the cards. I don't do anything with them, but I have them.

It has finally happened... I am out of space! I ordered a pack of magnetic sheets, that I think are the same thickness as the magnetic tape I used previously, and have another, larger, frame ready to go. Will post the new and improved display when it's done!

The Home Depot magnetic tape is what I used for my first one. Coming in rolls made it difficult, but taking my time applying and letting them sit overnight with a pile of books on them did the trick.. BUT.. I found a better solution...

Here is the newly made display! I played around with the strength of the magnets and found that the ball markers will still hold through a thin lens cleaning cloth. I may make a trip to a local hobby shop and see if I can find a thin material to line the magnets to hide the seams, but then again, you don't really notice them once the markers are on... And speaking of seams, notice that there are only 4 magnets on this one! Finally found a thick magnetic sheet (60mil instead of the 20mil found everywhere). They come in 8x10 sheets with an adhesive backing (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2SE5KA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It was much easier this time around finding thick enough sheet magnets, so if you are going to make one, that's the way to go.

 

 

EDIT: It doesn't look THAT much bigger in the first picture, but once I transferred all the markers.. WOW! I will have plenty of room for quite a while!
