KJG67
I used the discount back at the beginning of November. Picked up the TourXDream. Used the TM Spider Blade 12 successfully for several years. Wheels fell off a year or so ago, despite going back to my instructor. Might be the 50 y/o eyes just lost it. Was doing better with Odyssey OWorks V-Line Fang CH this year, but couldn't pass up the MLA discount after some research. Was able to hit the practice green and got 3 rounds in here in Chicago over the past few weeks. All I can say is the MLA is not leaving my bag. For me, the head, weight, alignment, and feel make for a huge difference. Putts are running smooth and straight. Speed, distance, and feel are right on. My buddy watched me test both, and he agreed my stroke and the putts were noticeably better with the MLA. He felt the TourXDream was too heavy for him, but did like it overall. He's happily dropping putts with his Scotty blade, so no interest in changing. One thing I noticed with the Odyssey was a very soft feel off the face, which often required more stroke for distance. It was different, but it worked for me. It's not a bad putter at all. The MLA face though feels ‘natural.' Not mushy and not hitting a brick. The ball just seems like an extension of the face when struck. Even a couple of putts off of the toe stayed on line with the right distance. Didn't get any twist off the face. Absolutely worth checking MLA out. I don't think anyone would be disappointed. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
STUDque
@KJG67 Interesting you tested the same ones. I'm still getting accustomed to speed control with the milled face since the feel is very different. In short, I'm short on long putts and long on short putts. The Tour Classic has an even heavier head than the X-Dream (oddly enough) but I really feel confident with it in my hands. GolfSpy MPR
Interesting: some of you have seen my other post in this putting forum on my basement green and the putting contest I'm holding among my putters. For validity, I certainly shouldn't have switched the grip on the MLA in the midst of the test. But I did, so too late for that. The only item left in the contest was another round of the ten putt drill (putts from 4–8, alternating left and right breaks). The MLA had, to this point, been performing abysmally for me. It was clearly in last place for all of my putters, which was the biggest shock of the contest. Just went 10/10 with it with the new grip on. Interesting. I'm not a huge fan of the feel of the face of the MLA. I prefer a softer feel (for instance, I love the deep milled face of my Cleveland Satin 2135). I'm assuming that the Tour milled version has that softer, more muted sound that I'd prefer. I suspect that that feel may have some relation to distance control, as to whether the sound a putter makes correlates with the distance you expect. As for my grip, being a Baptist pastor, I resent the suggestion I'm using a Catholic grip :-) My grip is slightly left hand low. If you put your two thumbs up, fit the main knuckle of your right thumb just under the knuckle if the left. Then close the left hand, then the right. That's my grip. For me, much of the feel of my line comes from the back of my left palm being square. For that reason, the Flat Cat really seems compatible with what I'm doing. Rickp
When I first started using the MLA PRO XDREAM I was unimpressed. When I put it up against a blade (one of my favorites) and Odyssey 7 Oworks the MLA didn't hold up and I definitely did not like the grip. After a few weeks playing and switching between the MLA & Odyssey and some practice green time the Odyssey went cold, graveyard dead cold. Instead of going back to the blade I took the MLA out for 18 really in a hunch. WOW what a change it's got as any putter I've ever used, dropped some big bombs and saved par when everything else wasn't working. The only thing I can take was that the “wings†were throwing me off at first and grip was new to me as size and shape. Now it feels good and performs even better. Soooo bottom line is MLA is in the bag. Footnote, the Odyssey 7 Oworks face is awesome feel off the ball no matter what ball I used. STUDque
I'd be interested to see what the MLA Blade putters are like. STUDque
Here's a really cool sale MLA just announced for you lefties out there. I've been pleasantly surprised at how many lefties are on MGS so I'm sure a handful of you can find value in this. The 50% off is an even better deal than they ran last fall for Black Friday/Christmas. Editorially, it's a little ironic that they show a left-gloved hand in the ad since that's the hand righties wear gloves on.
