Just did some work on my Pro Xdream. Blacked out the shaft with shrink wrap and put on a standard size Lamkin Flat Cat. Color scheme is perfect, so the aesthetics are great; now to see if it actually adds accuracy.20171228_135115.jpg20171228_135046.jpg

Wow that's got a really cool look. Nice job.

I thought the Flat Cats were supposed to be turned the other way? I guess it's dealers choice.

Unless I'm mistaken, Justin Rose turns in the other way, which makes sense for a claw grip. My understanding is that, for a normal grip, you're supposed to feel the face orientation with the flat sides of the grip.

Yeah. Justin Rose is my only frame of reference. I'm interested to see how you like the grip after you get to tool around a bit.

I need to get to a practice facility where I can roll mine- starting to get tough looking at it in the back of my truck.  But,  I may pull everything out - we are going thru this NE US COLD Snap- and I don't think I will be on the course any time in the next few weeks...

Justin Rose turns his the other way from "proper" for his claw grip, and I think the grip feels great that way. I almost put mine on the "wrong" way because I had only see one on JR's putter. I had one of these on a SeeMore and have thought about adding one to my Edel, but gonna try a P2 first.

Interesting: some of you have seen my other post in this putting forum on my basement green and the putting contest I'm holding among my putters.

For validity, I certainly shouldn't have switched the grip on the MLA in the midst of the test. But I did, so too late for that.

The only item left in the contest was another round of the ten putt drill (putts from 4–8, alternating left and right breaks). The MLA had, to this point, been performing abysmally for me. It was clearly in last place for all of my putters, which was the biggest shock of the contest.

Just went 10/10 with it with the new grip on.

Interesting.

That's very interesting to me. I remember seeing how poorly the MLA Putter was doing and chalked it up in my head to the fact that the Pro model may not be as good as the Tour.

How do you even hold that Flat Cat grip? I'm picturing liked a "Catholic prayer" style grip.

I'm going to write a summary soon, so I'm not trying to steal my own thunder, but...

I'm not a huge fan of the feel of the face of the MLA. I prefer a softer feel (for instance, I love the deep milled face of my Cleveland Satin 2135). I'm assuming that the Tour milled version has that softer, more muted sound that I'd prefer.

I suspect that that feel may have some relation to distance control, as to whether the sound a putter makes correlates with the distance you expect.

As for my grip, being a Baptist pastor, I resent the suggestion I'm using a Catholic grip :-)

My grip is slightly left hand low. If you put your two thumbs up, fit the main knuckle of your right thumb just under the knuckle if the left. Then close the left hand, then the right. That's my grip.

For me, much of the feel of my line comes from the back of my left palm being square. For that reason, the Flat Cat really seems compatible with what I'm doing.

When I first started using the MLA PRO XDREAM I was unimpressed. When I put it up against a blade (one of my favorites) and Odyssey 7 Oworks the MLA didn't hold up and I definitely did not like the grip. After a few weeks playing and switching between the MLA & Odyssey and some practice green time the Odyssey went cold, graveyard dead cold. Instead of going back to the blade I took the MLA out for 18 really in a hunch. WOW what a change it's got as any putter I've ever used, dropped some big bombs and saved par when everything else wasn't working.

The only thing I can take was that the “wings” were throwing me off at first and grip was new to me as size and shape. Now it feels good and performs even better. Soooo bottom line is MLA is in the bag.

Footnote, the Odyssey 7 Oworks face is awesome feel off the ball no matter what ball I used.

I'd be interested to see what the MLA Blade putters are like. The Tour Classic is like a mid-mallet/big blade and fits my eye and stroke much better than the X-Dream.

The blade blade line is new. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them pop up high in the Most Wanted test.

I've never had a putter grip issue. It's the same as when I picked up a putter 20 years ago. I'm going have SWMBO take a pic of it tomorrow and see what you guys think.

I know there is some science behind the MLA putters, and I haven't hit one so I can't say for sure, but looking at pictures I cant for the life of me figure out how that thing is supposed to help you line up better. It looks very conusing to my eyes. Not knocking it as I know some love it but it doesn't look like it would fit my eye at all.

Might be time to pull the trigger. They are $20 and free shipping on the Lamkin site now. They feel great with a claw grip.

Here's a really cool sale MLA just announced for you lefties out there. I've been pleasantly surprised at how many lefties are on MGS so I'm sure a handful of you can find value in this. The 50% off is an even better deal than they ran last fall for Black Friday/Christmas.

file-EB9DBCDB-3B36-475B-BC3F-0C0A82C6A742-16463-0000073C15EB9952.jpg

Editorially, it's a little ironic that they show a left-gloved hand in the ad since that's the hand righties wear gloves on.
