Spent all weekend doing this.

Long story short, we bought our home 3 years ago from the same couple who built it 50 years ago as a custom house.

 

This used to be a wall; my father and I opened it up to the dining room for better flow and utility.

 

With that, the trim below needed work. Yesterday we finally got to remodeling the trim and was disappointed when we saw the original trim was this absolutely gorgeous white maple. We saved that and plan to repurpose it but managed to fit the remaining with wainscot. We managed to get 90% done and just have the base and shoe before paint.

 

I love this thread, we've done a ton of projects since owning our home.

Can't imagine painting maple. Glad you're saving it.

I cringe at the thought of tossing it. I already have an idea to repurpose it.

Can't believe I have the patience for it.

Enjoying a new tool putting it to good use:

Not pictured, cleaned the retaining wall, playhouse, sidewalk, and siding by our entryway. This little electronic pressure washer has been quite nice and I don't have to bug FIL to borrow his.

We’ve been doing so much work outside. Of course it is sooo hot here we can do it early morning, or late a night. Still have some small things to do, but for the most part it’s ready to go. As I flipped through my photos I realized I don’t have the most recent work that has been done.

Thanks Tony...I know the thread was focused more on what’s my Achilles around the house but a little bit of positive isn’t a bad thing.

That being said...if anyone has an extra $5700 lying around for tree and stump removal I’ll take it.

It’s not that I don’t, I just cringe at the thought of spending that much to take down trees.

Whoop! Big weekend around the Garcia household. Got some small, important, exciting, and huge projects going on with many wrapping up.

Small...

Hung some tall blackout curtains for my youngest so she can take her naps in peace. Of course the oldest liked the look of bigger curtains (hers are already blackout) so I bet I'll end up doing the same for her too.

That damn shower door. You know, the one I started this thread complaining about. We're working on our 4th year in the house and I FINALLY tackled that SOB. Yyeeeeaaaahhhaaaaw.

The biggest issue came down to the alignment of the door. Had to use a rubber mallet to bang the corner in further for a straight hang then install some spacers to raise it up for clearance. Replaced the water seal and caulk (first time caulking and hated it) for good measure and the door is behaving for the first time since we moved in.

The Mrs and I just celebrated 5 years back in May. The traditional present for 5 years is wood so I got her a stack of wood and plans to build an Adirondak love seat. . I had to work on this thing one step at a time to fit it in around our busy schedule but finally finished it up today. AND IT SITS FLAT ON THE GROUND!! Very pleased with how it came out as this was the most difficult build I've done yet. Still need to paint it but here's the final result:

My wife just started watching that tidying up show on Netflix with Marie Kondo. Needless to say, we're going through a full-on wardrobe cleanse. More to go on that but we're charging ahead for trash bags of clothes to donate.

 I'm sure a golfing community like this understands that one of the best parts of projects like this is new tools. I'm finally getting to the point where I feel like I've got a reasonably strong collection and can take on more projects. Can't wait to see what's next.

Sounds like a busy weekend. Btw masking tape is your friend when caulking - only way to get straight lines and even distribution.

Lot watching all these projects. I can’t wait to stop moving constantly and own my own house. I have been going projects for the wife and her friends to keep me busy lol. Made a cool stocking hanger for Christmas. Made a few shelves and I am about to start making 2 end tables.

Almost done expanding my patio. 5 tons of stone and a ton of sand for the base and 225 12"x12" pavers. Did all of the work myself over 3 days. Just need to put the finishing touches on it.

I like the chair- sits flat on the ground? I assume it's built for two to sit together? Nice work
