It is pouring here in Pennsylvania today and I could hear my some pump running so I walk down in the my basement. Only to find I few inches of water on the floor.  I was debating digging my basement down due to hitting my head on the rafters now looks like I am going to do so just to make sure I have drainage under the floor to avoid my basement flooding again. This sucks and I wish the people I bought this house from would have mentioned that there was issues with water coming through but of course they did not.

You've probably done this - but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention downspouts/gutters. At our previous house we would get rainwater seeping in because the downspouts didn't channel the water away from the house. Same thing if you have leaking gutters. .

  • 3 weeks later...

I live on a slope so had a cement retaining wall in the back yard from the previous owner that was starting to lean. So I had a guy come in with heavy equipment to take it out.He warned me about possible damage to the foundation but I had no choice as the wall was too dangerous. Sure enough in the spring I had to places where I had hairline cracks with water coming in. I had no accumulation because it all went out the floor drain but everything on the floor was doused! I called a contractor but he said he couldn't fix it from the inside as the cracks were too small for an epoxy fix.

I decided to give it a try as I had nothing to lose. I waited till spring thaw stopped and dried out the wall completely then put a heater on the part I was going to fix just so it soaks up the concoction I was about to apply a bit better. The concoction  was Portland cement with a latex binder but very very thin. I apply it to the crack then quickly add more cement  about a teaspoon ,apply it again and repeat till the last coat was like toothpaste! My back yard drains the neighbours above me, so plenty of water passes by my foundation! That repair was in 1988. Still bone dry!

So the old saying  " Anytime you want things done right , do it yourself"

Pete

I finally made some shelves in the man cave to get all the books off the floor. The bookcases got blown out the last time the basement flooded. That issue has been resolved, but I've been slack in regards to doing something about the books...guess it takes a pandemic to get me off my arse. Yes, there's a lot of books, somewhere around 400, I think.

Thank you mate. Yep, the only ones I'm not into are the Isaac Bell and Fargo series. Unfortunately Mr Cussler passed away in April this year.

Yeah I always had a preference for the Dirk Pitt series. Too bad only one of them made it to the big screen - Sahara.

BTW, I did a little math; 400 books let's say times $15. avg price ......😱

I know and they're the ones that I keep because of the author. To be fair though, I do buy a lot on Amazon, pre-owned. I've paid as little as $0.01 for a book with $4.99 shipping in very good condition.

First one I noticed was "The Cooks Companion" despite it being face down. Why isn't it in the kitchen😀 I've given my oldest a copy, the youngest will get hers for her 18th. My copy is very well worn.

All my cookbooks are on the bottom shelf...yes, there's a lot of them. That's why they don't reside in the kitchen, they only make their way there when I use them for a recipe. And sometimes I just like sitting down there in my recliner reading them.

It's at times campy and corny, but it's one of the best written and most clever shows I've seen.

I think the gal playing Dr. who this past season did a great job in the role.

I've still got to watch her episodes, I saw the first one and thought she was great in the role but for some reason we never finished the last couple of seasons.

I've been watching Doctor Who since 1976ish, the Tom Baker years. Jodie Whittaker found her legs in her season 2. Season 1, for me, had some really badly written episodes.

Guess I missed Season 1 with her. I just binge watched this last season with her and thought she did a good job. Looking forward to next season.

I’ve spent the past week cleaning up the mess of 8 stumps being ground, building and mulching a garden and growing grass where the stumps no longer reside. Needless to say I could use a new back. On the bright side of things, not only do I have the worlds best helper but my Azalea bushes are starting to pop.

Just finished the terrace just in time for summer, now have to do the concrete support on the right side, fill the void with fresh soil, get rid of the bushes on the property line and plant a beech hedge.

And obviously, I'm not gonna waste my precious golfing time mawing the lawn, so I'll set-up this bad boy as well:

Almost finished building myself a new smoker, will get it done tomorrow before seasoning it and hopefully getting some ribs cooked.

Really happy with how how it looks, and hoping it cooks as good as it looks.

Came out great

I’ve spent the past week cleaning up the mess of 8 stumps being ground, building and mulching a garden and growing grass where the stumps no longer reside. Needless to say I could use a new back. On the bright side of things, not only do I have the worlds best helper but my Azalea bushes are starting to pop.

Ah yes daughters 😍 - They're precious at this age. Don't ask me about what they're like when they become teenagers.

What a great transition - nice job. Based on the grills in the background - you'll have to start up a new thread..Grill Ho's

Doesn't even look like the same barrel, great job! That's professional quality work.
