PSA don't rush because that's when bad things happen. Having no lights in the room meant me trying to finish another piece before it got dark which led to an incident. Foot slipped off the edge and I started to go down to the first floor, quick reaction times helped but I messed up my kitchen ceiling earlier than desired. Positive is most of the hole in my floor is fixed

A little sore just slipped off the edge of the flooring just before I grabbed the circular saw I'm glad I didn't have it in my hand running.

I have this table saw for the farm.  Very well built saw and has a nice safety feature.  Makes me feel safer when working alone in a building with less than ideal cell service.

My next door neighbor also bought one, but only after almost losing three fingers.

So be careful out there in DIY land.

Home improvement seems to be all my wife and I have been doing for nearly 3 years since buying a house in the neighborhood where my wife grew up.  In 2018, we refinished the hardwood floors throughout the house, installed HVAC, removed the old, worn-out oil furnace, replaced the old fuse box with a modern breaker box, and rewired the entire house.  In 2019, we refinishing the basement.  After a short break, we renovated our daughters bathroom to be more suitable for teenagers/adults rather than kids in June of this year.  That leaves us with only the kitchen remaining, which is on the schedule for 2021.

Last week, we began noticing an issue around guttering along the front porch.  After carefully taking down the guttering, the wood backing was completely rotted through.  We removed it while searching for the cause of the problem.  The guttering and leaf guard system is in great shape given it was installed in 2012.  The front porch roof is supported by three posts.  What we found was the post on the opposite side of the downspout was nearly three inches shorter than the other two posts.  The porch roof had settled around the shorter post causing a big dip in the gutter causing the water to flow in the opposite direction of the downspout.  The gutter would fill with water rather than drain properly.  The water would then overflow back into the wooden backing because the wooden backing was installed with the top edge leaning backward, toward the house.  Completely incompetent craftsmanship!

The old adage holds true, you never truly own your home, it owns you!

I am one of those crazy people who love home improvement projects.  Fortunately for me I have two sons who have chose to live near me and need someone to help with improvements.  Our house is where we want it, and shouldn't need anything for years to come.  Fingers crossed, throwing salt over shoulder etc...

Got the one wall up today so I can close things off and be able to walk down the hallway to the bathroom again. Also put plywood down to cover the hole I fell through and subfloor immediately over it. Tools died on me at a bad time guess I should learn to charge them and not expect the batteries to last 4 straight days of work. Really didn't need to put up vapor barrier as it's the interior wall but I figured it's going up against the bathroom so I might as well put it up to keep any moisture out especially since I didn't do the bathroom yet. I have a nice 2 foot void between the wall and the bathroom set up for expanding the bathroom when I get there. I have a month to get this house mostly done because when I have puppies on the ground here I will have NO spare time.

Walls done.  Time for a La Croix water.  Light fixture will be done next week.  Getting painted as we speak.  New outlets, switches, walls, trim.  All for around 450.  And new floor after the paint.  I’ll post up a final “review” of my work.

then... I get to do 3 more rooms with the faux shiplap, and 7 more rooms worth of floor and trim!  Oh what fun!  Oh, and I might have to re-do the kitchen... 🤦🏼‍♂️

I think the driver deal just turned into a bit more than 1 club.

Well got insulation and vapor barrier up in 3 of the 4 walls. The only wall not done is because I have subflooring against the wall and we were unable to run the electricity to this wall the closet. I'm done for the day I'm on vacation so I don't have to worry about work for the next 10 days. Subfloor tomorrow hopefully in both rooms so all I have to do is frame over part of a wall and build one last closet. Crappy part of there being no closets in the house is I have to make them from scratch and the house isn't square so the closets cannot be completely square. Only worked 3 hours today but I worked overtime last night and my bed at work is giving me upper back pain so I'm not pushing it since I have time.

Yea there are sections that are really beat up and the subfloor I'm using is only a 1/4 inch thick but I'm using it to make things level and I have a leveling cement for under it to make sure the low spots are fixed before I put it down to make it the best I can.

Outside it got to 48 last night. My house didn't drop below 65 which is nice. Once I have the ceiling insulated and the drywall in this should definitely help my heating bill.
