Yesterday’s wind storm decided that I need a new fence. I’m not even mad.

That happened to us in 2019. Insurance way over paid for the fence and I bought it and put it in, fortunately it was just the panels and not the posts as well.

"We" have some hobbies like that.  I am usually the silent, manual labor partner on such things.
Like yesterday, "we" like to have flower beds.  One of the projects for this Spring is to move the rose plants from one area where there is too much clay, stays wet and they aren't doing real well.  So yesterday I got to work on the rototiller to get it running and then I dug up a section of grass and moved four wheelbarrow loads of composted leaf dirt and rototilled that in.  Then I moved some flat stone around to form the edge.
I did get the lawn scratched up and lawn vac'ed to get the thatch out of the way and got the Spring weed & feed down in time to get rained on today so that is done.  I also got the mower at the church ready for the year and did the first cutting up there so it looks good for Easter.
Guess who was too tired to play 9 last evening?!

Right now in FL every plant, bush, flower & tree goes nuts and doubles in size overnight (maybe exaggerating) but it seems like it. I’ll be trimming something every 3days especially rainy season.
There are plans being made for an extended Monarch Butterfly garden and I know who the “excavation team” will be. That’s OK I like being outside, prefer with a club in my hands though.

We have a good variety of critters here too.  I saw the first snake of the year on Friday, just a small garter snake warming up in the sun.  We have lots of blue tail skinks around here.  The cats like to chase them but get confused when the tail comes off and the critter escapes while they are distracted by the wiggling tail.

I was tempted about the insurance claim but since we built it for less than $2500 and the replacement should be under $3000 I didnt want to file a claim.

The western exposure is 120' long and is essentially, a gigantic sail.  Even with the posts anchored like yours it is an event every spring.  My neighbors are great people and I've already talked to them about putting arborvitae along that space instead of the 6' fence.  They have a 4' chain link so there really aren't any issues about the dogs egress and the greenery should offer some better privacy.  Work in progress for sure.

This project was just too much for myself... so had to hire some external help:

A 5x5m glass roof for our garden terrace with a motorized awning for sunny days. Still waiting for the glass to be delivered, though.

Went out on lunch and finished laying down the stone next to the swing set area for our fire pit.

Right on time too because we had my neighbors nephew on the street last weekend cutting down and trimming trees for all of us so there’s plenty of brush and logs to burn.

Humane or non humane?

I’m open to anything but my wife is a sympathizer so that is what I’m up against.

The feeder is pressure sensitive and I have it set to anything over 1.5 ounces shuts off the food supply. The squirrels hang by their tails and go to town on the food. It is full time work monitoring the situation. I think a poisoned dart on a zip line is a can’t miss idea.

I've tried virtually everything except the 22. We had a bird feeder on a 5 foot 3/4" copper pipe that I coated with a thick layer of grease - didn't work. The squirrel preventer discs, nope they got around that as well. We've even shot them with bb's and they still came back. They are tenacious buggers.

The birds eat better than me....the squirrels stay on the ground due to those baffles on the poles.

Finished the new garden area yesterday.  Moved the rose bushes from the other spot where they struggled to here and got two yards of mulch spread here and a couple other beds.

The “drowning” bucket, as opposite as humane as you can get works pretty good. Have not had any issues with rats or squirrels.

Just a net is going to have to do for now 🥲. Unfortunately I definitely would not have the time to maintain a green although that would be pretty awsome. I have the room lol

I was a .22 proponent back in the day. Had to change to more humane (baffles) when kids got older and disliked my shooting .
They (kids) never gave their Granpa (my Dad) any grief when he would pick off critters in his garden.
