I got things smooth enough that I haven’t had to sand between coats which is nice

👍  Same here....no sanding needed between coats and hopefully just a light sanding after the final skim coat.  I still hate that part though.  Although I admit I usually have to skim a couple places after the primer coat of paint reveals a bad spot that I missed.

Ha, nah not a robot. Went with an Ego brand to match the weed whacker and blower, so I don't have to worry about different batteries and chargers and stuff -- all interchangeable!

Then most of the grass died while I was trying to figure out the sprinkler systems, and the unusually-dry winter we were having before the last few weeks. LOL!

I have the same battery swapping system from Landroid. Weed whacker, blower, robot, trimmer, power drill, etc... All use the same... But I guess without grass, there is no need 😄

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been away from golf and MGS for about 2 weeks - although it seems like forever. Our kitchen cabinets arrived about a week and a half ago and I've been busy ever since. The final piece went in today (dishwasher end panel), which I was finishing up just as the granite guy arrived to measure/template. So not quite done yet but at least I can proceed at a less frenetic pace.

I started out with new led pot lights. We went from this beautiful garage type fluorescent fixture (was this even popular in '92 when the condo was built????

We went from this

to this (note disregard the beautiful wallpaper behind what will be the chimney for the range hood.)

IMG_8677.jpg.07a905f5e952ba42cc33e766ba258362.jpg

We're doing white uppers and gray lowers.  Here's a shot of the wine bar BG (before granite).

IMG_8676.jpg.f23f12ddac8bde923c8cc472260c63e2.jpg

And of course my wife decided that she doesn't like the ceramic tile on the floor so I spent a fair amount of time on my  knees pulling up the old tile and using a power tool to smooth out the thinset underneath it. Don't even bother to ask how that went 🤬. I just pulled out enough tile around the cabinets - no rush since the new flooring is backordered to (maybe) March.

Hopefully golf will be in my near future!

They must have “allowed” whiskey in the jobsite when this house was built.  Not a dang wall, door, window or anything is square.  Making puzzle pieces to make the trim look halfway decent.  Can’t wait to put the “See you Later” For Sale sign out this summer.  Can’t believe I’ll be transferring AGAIN next year, should be the last though.

Our 1st house which was built in 1945 was that way also.  The fieldstone foundation I’m sure had something to do with it as it “settled”.

I'll bet the knob and tube wiring was also something special 😉

My shed has it.  Not hooked up to anything, but I’m sure it’s filled with all sorts of other fun things in the walls that could kill me.

The house I grew up in until I was 14 was knob and tube.  Not sure when that house was built probably early 1900’s.  It was a 2 family and my father and uncle bought it after WWII.  I can remember them digging out the dirt floor, pouring cement and switching from coal to oil.  Yup, we had coal heat!!
My Dad and uncle did a lot of work in that house until we grew out of it.

Go with the cedar. Those homestead rescue shows always use cedar when there is ground contact with the wood. Grain istight and termites don't like it.

I’ve heard PT isn’t good for planting because the chemicals can leech into the soil and then in the plants? Not sure how true it is? There was another one I think that was good like cedar, I believe it was fir but that’s tough to come by if you aren’t buying hardwood flooring

I’ve heard PT isn’t good for planting because the chemicals can leech into the soil and then in the plants? Not sure how true it is? There was another one I think that was good like cedar, I believe it was fir but that’s tough to come by if you aren’t buying hardwood flooring

Modern PT shouldn't leech anything too harmful, it's the older stuff (like pre-2003) that used an arsenic treating mixture that could leech bad things into the soil.

FWIW, cedar is a great option. I used regular pine 2x8 and am going into year three with mine with no issues. They will rot out quicker, I'm sure. But I have four 4'x20' beds and cedar was going to be cost prohibitive. I did coat each board with a vinegar/canola oil mixture, however. Also, all of the corners use stainless bolts/washers and Strong-Tie connectors instead of screws so I can easily swap boards if needed.

It's certainly possible.  Only reason I consider is the garden my mother raises every summer could supply a small army with everything from tomatoes to cucumbers, zucchini to eggplant and even romaine and herbs.

This is the current setup, picture taken a couple years ago.  The wood is falling apart now and wife wants to change them out before she plants her summer crop.

Will look for the cedar boards before we begin the build 😀
