Nice - did you use the 'pvc' stuff or wood. Those are great decks you've got.

thanks, trying to get the yard in shape so we can enjoy them this summer

i used the pvc lattice. figured it’d last longer and be less maintenance.

turned on the water at our house we bought last fall for the first time.

brass pipe with a big hole in it.

home depot guy walked me through replacing it with a torch and solder. had never tried it before but figured it's got to be cheaper than a plumber.

everything was going well until I got to the soldering part and tried to "wing it".

It didn't go too well at first.

IMG_0509.jpg.6f7b1a8d9345717ffa7966764b137a70.jpg

Solder dripped down on my fingers and damn that stuff gets hot.

Then I decided to youtube "how to solder"... should have done that first. and worn gloves!

Skip the torch and solder and use 'sharkbite' fittings. once you try them you'll never go back.

Thanks!

I found a few other leaks I need to fix and must say that I wasn't looking forward to trying the solder again.

I'll check out sharkbite.

FYI - if you go down the 'sharkbite' path do purchase the larger extraction tool and the measuring tool so that you  can mark how far to insert the fitting.

I wear gloves for more things now than ever....my first thought if I ding my hand is how will that effect my golf grip and game.

A Plus 1 for the shark bite fittings from me too.  I would also recommend trying to use a valve where you do the repair if it's in an exposed area since original plumbing installs never seem to put in enough of them or at the right place for doing repairs.

I should have mentioned if you do have to solder the most important step is to steel wool the surfaces until they are real shiny....dirty pipes don't let the solder flow well at all.

Should have given me a shout! Coulda had ya brazed up in no time. Also shark bite fittings work extremely well for quick repairs.

Solder has its place but I agree with the shark bite path.  Used them to replace my hot water heater and wouldn't change a thing.

Has anyone ever tried to remove a sharkbite from a pipe?  I do not have much luck with the little plastic collar tool.  You are supposed to be able to push in the sleeve with it to release the fitting but I think I was only ever able to get that to work maybe twice.  I have a couple short sections of copper with shark bites on them sitting in the workshop for when I figure out how to do it!!  😬

No and for a couple reasons.

First, they're not super expensive.

Second, I don't trust reusing compression fittings.

Picked up some chairs on lunch break... we’re just about finished now.

need to tighten up the barrier a bit.

Those Adirondack Chairs are pretty good. We’ve got the same ones that stay outside all year and they don’t bake out, crack or discolor in FL sun. We’ve had considerably more expensive furniture last only 5 years.

Yeah, I've had some family and friends that own similar ones that have help up really well.  I actually sort of think they can be more comfortable than a lot of the more expensive ones too.  And I won't feel as bad when the boys destroy them with whatever tools, weapons,  or body parts that are use to check how strong they are.

They are durable. The Bride picked up some cushions for them and even golf guys haven’t destroyed them ......yet.

I've found that rather than holding the fitting still on the pipe and pushing the plastic collar tool against it, it works better if you hold the plastic collar tool in place on the pipe and push the Sharkbite fitting further onto the pipe against the tool - that allows the teeth to release from the pipe, making it easier for the sleeve to slide under them.

But I've only done that to remove fittings to replace with a different style (i.e. put a tee in where a coupling had been) - I would never reuse an old fitting after removing it.

That little collar tool - throw it away useless. Spend the $10  but make sure you get the correct pipe size.

Bought our house 6 years ago now and the kitchen has always been an eye sore. We intend on doing an addition and completely remodeling the kitchen but I couldn’t handle the sink anymore. Old white sink that is porous so it’s was just so stained over the years. Complete swap today very happy to go to a single bay and it can stay when the kitchen gets revamped

Love the stainless steel and that faucet looks great! You did a good job on that.

Ohh that’s so much better. I always hated the divided sinks.

It worked out great because this drain is to the right so all I had to do with the drains is cap the one to the left!

i’m building a wood slat feature wall in our great room.

here’s the section of wall it’s going on...i’m just doing the 90” behind the couch for now.

FC61E1A3-DCF4-4831-9138-36DCFEAEC0C1.jpeg.291a31b0e3e9ab30360d621c799f0461.jpeg

bought 55 1.5” slats from home depot and got to sanding

7D39CE34-E2FE-4DA4-9290-7BF76D943A31.jpeg.cae9fec5d774ab854cfd58ae9ba7ee0c.jpeg

did one pass with a belt sander at 80 grit, then hit each slat with the orbital at 150 and finally 320 grit.

this morning i got them all stained up

my pops is coming up to help me with a few projects tomorrow and monday, so the plan is to let these dry all day, see if they need a second coat tomorrow, and then cut them to length and install on monday.

i’m going with a .5” space between each slat.
