Vapor retarder in the ceiling?

Sent from my iPad using

My house is different. It's a flat roof directly above that insulation. Typically you put the vapor barrier to keep the warm zone and cold zone separate. I put it up to keep the insulation in place and if the flat roof ever leaks I'll have less water marks on my ceiling.

One last big project to finish up tonight and my kid’s game room is almost complete. The vinyl baseboard covers were crazy expensive so I decided for $100 in lumber and my limited carpentry skills to build my own. I am 2/3’s done and they don’t look half bad.

Impulsive project begins Sunday when we finish the living room with built-ins around the fireplace. They’ll mimick the family room design we completed a few years ago.  Essentially we’ll be building a twin to this.

How much did you spend doing this compared to metal? I have something similar to do in my renovations

I had roughly 22 feet of baseboard to do for the room. I bought 4 1x4s and 3 1x5s from Home Depot. Add in some angle brackets to slide in on the back over the baseboard casing and I was out the for for $108. Essentially did the entire room for about the coast of one metal panel.

And I also forgot I am putting screening on the top opening so add on $30 for a 3x3 sheet of metal screen.

I like this idea I just need to cover piping that is going in my closet so why waste the metal if I can build it and paint it to match my wall and not have to worry about it. I never thought of this thanks jMike

Welcome. I didn’t either until YouTube. I saw a video on it and said well I can build these at a fraction of the cost. Took about three hours and was pretty much all straight cuts with the miter saw and table saw.

Day one done. Set and leveled the base cabinets. Painted the fireplace and installed perimeter base and quarter round shoe.

Tomorrow we build the cabinet tops and upper shelves.

Got all the drywall in my one room done except for the closet. Going to finish that tomorrow we installed the closet door today so I can finish this easily before my dad shows up and we start to run the baseboards for my heating. Will post pictures once the room is done.

Cabinet tops are wrapping up. We use 3/4” 4’x8’oak veneer, attach it to a base of 3/4” pressboard which was just some leftover material. It gives us the taller and beefier top without the extra cost. Once that’s glued and nailed, we put an edge band around the face and let that bond

Nice work there, that takes skill and patience and the right tools help a bit also!  I see some serious woodworking gear in that pic.  Besides the table saw and jointer I think I see a band saw.  Got any pics of the shop you care to share?

Thank you. My father has had a wood shop as a side gig for 45 years. As I’ve grown, it’s been a gift to learn from him.  I don’t have any pictures but it’s pretty much everything we’d need to built cabinets, counters and furniture.
