Words can't even express how happy I am to be done with this project. I've had to hear about it no less than 5x per month for the past 2 years we've been in this house.

Then the actual project was a combination of terrifying and annoying up on a fully extended ladder. Phew. Hopefully this scratches the itch to change stuff with the house for a while.

Looks great man!  Had to do that when we first moved in so I totally get it.  No matter how much money you spend on a ladder, being that high up never feels stable to me.

Almost finished building myself a new smoker, will get it done tomorrow before seasoning it and hopefully getting some ribs cooked. Sunday morning   Monday afternoon

We did a ton this year but this has to be my favorite. My parents helped us build this in our family room.

The biggest thing I haven't been able to fix so far is the lack of a simulator.

We originally lived in the Northeast and plants and trees go dormant for 6 months so didn't mind taking care of them.

Moving to Florida our house HAD about 40 trees, shrubs and freakin flowers. Nobody told me FL had a 12 month growing season!! I was going nuts taking care of all the greenery. So I took out about 10 of the worst offenders and deal with the rest.

40 trees holy moly - you must be in a different part of Florida then where I go. Most of the homes in Marathon have 1 token palm tree and a couple of bushes

The 40 is the total amount of “greenery” we had mostly this fast growing stuff I can't even name. Got about 6 trees left, Irma took 2.

The shrubs are the worst offenders, they grow a foot an hour in rainy season!

I won't plant any Palm trees had 6 1st house and they go crazy growth.

We planted roughly a dozen each of Leland cypress and green giants along a potion of our property line about five years ago and holy moly, they have exploded in size. I'm going to have to get them cut back now severely, every year. I'd estimate that they are growing at least two feet vertically per year, and the Lelands really need to be shaped. I'm sure I'm not the first and the guys with green thumbs are thinking, “what the heck did you expect, dummy?”, but the growth has become exponential.

Some of these trees, shrubs just grow incredible fast.

My old beagles would get a sniff of something and head full bay and full steam out the back door- I don't think they ever noticed there was a screen door.

So is the frame busted up or is literally just the screen portion ?  They are super easy to replace.  All you need is spline, the spline roller tool, and the proper size screen (not all that expensive either).  I replaced all the screens in my house myself and enclosed a covered deck with screens.

Well shoot, tell her to buy me some bushes :D.  Since I've moved into my house (5 years ago), I have replaced the same bushes in front of my house under the windows (a total of 5 bushes) each year.  They seem to take at first, but nosedive into the brown, leave shedding death by the end of the summer.  The front of our house gets a lot of sun, but I kept those bushes hydrated and made sure they had nutrients to survive the sun.  Well, at least the dead leaves add to ambience when halloween rolls around.  The only thing I haven't checked is the soil I've been planting them in to see if there's a pH issue.  All I know is I'm sick of digging up bushes and paying out the wazoo for them too!

Yeah it's just the screen. Very easy to replace like you said.

Funny story - my wife and I were at a neighbor's house on their deck.  It was getting dark but we were all sitting on the deck having beers and wine.  Wife gets up with a full glass of red wine in her hand and goes to walk through the doorway thresh hold...only she didn't see that the screen door was closed.  Busted the screen out of the door and spilled wine all over her.  We all about died laughing.  The next day I came back over and replaced the screening (I had just enclosed my deck with screens so I had the larger screen rolls.

the Biggest issue is the accumulation of stuff. Before you know it, you have all this stuff, and then realize your house is full of things, and you don't know how to get rid of it.

Living in Hawaii where real estate and space is a premium, this is something I can relate to

I don't know how this stuff grows in FL. nothing but sand. Of course plenty of sun and water help.

Yep, been there, still there.  When we moved from our condo to the new townhome, we put everything in storage as our builder was running behind and we already committed to a move out date.  Needless to say, when we moved into the new townhome, we liked the feeling of space.  We promptly sold everything in storage except for my TV and a couch that was passed down from my parents.  Fast forward 12 years and now we're moving from the townhome to a single family home now with two kids.  Didn't learn our lesson and filled a 2 car garage with miscellaneous boxes, LOL.  It was so bad that I didn't get to park in the garage for the entire summer.  It just happens...you get stuff, then more stuff, and I'm pretty sure they start multiplying on there own, LOL.

It's amazing how we can accumulate “stuff”. When we moved to FL from CT 5.5 years ago I could not believe how much we had. We gave to the kids whatever they wanted then to our friends after that piled remaining in the garage. Let the neighbors pick that over, the rest Goodwill. Still brought too much to FL.

BTW, we are accumulating “stuff” all over again in FL.!
