I am also trying to get a specific practice routine when hitting balls.

When you figure out how to do that please let me know. That's my biggest issue with practice is I start out strong but end up feeling like I just beat balls by the end of it

I find that hitting a club I like or hit well builds confidence. If your on the range for an hour or more you have to make it fun. If you hit a few poor shots go back to a club you hit well and the keep on improving

Here is what I am doing and trying to refine it.

15- 60* wedges 40-85 progressively longer

12- PW 3/4(3) flighted L-R/R-L(3each) Full(3)

8- 7i high and low L-R/R-L(6) stock(2)

8- 4i high and low L-R/R-L(6) stock(2)

8- 3w high and low L-R/R-L(6) stock(2)

12- Dr high and low L-R/R-L(3each)

Then if I know what course I am playing next I play as many holes as I can in my head. Unless I am working on making a change then I hit 12-15 working on the feel. Once I get past the 60* I go through my pre-shot routine before each shot.

I do putting and/or chipping everyday. I have a birdieball 3x14 dual speed green in my garage that I use for both.

Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

I like the use of the birdieball for chipping. Do you actually chip off the birdie ball surface or from another mat onto the birdieball surface? Just wondering how the birdieball turf and all its grain properties would hold up.

It's been fun following your success. Good luck and keep it up!

How do you practice when you're working on a new swing change without getting too bored or away from the new move?

I found this on another forum. But it makes perfect sense to me. I've always something “off” in my swing, but this seems to help.

Make a “perfect” swing as slow as you can, it gives you time to think about it. Take a video of it. Do slow motion until you feel you “got it” then speed it up gradually.

I know everyone is different but if your working on a swing change the first few sessions are not easy. You need to focus on the process more than results. It's a long process but if the change will work in the end it's worth it. When making a swing change I have found that there are areas of the game that are still fun and end my practice session with those and slowly make the progress with the swing change.

I have the Perfect Pitch May that I use to chip from. It helps with ball position as well and gives a surface to chip from.

Thanks for the support I really do appreciate it.

How do you practice when you're working on a new swing change without getting too bored or away from the new move?

When working on a new move I take it slow. I start about 50% speed and slowly build on it. I usually won't go full speed until the second time at the range working on the move. I take a lot of videos and reviews them which keeps me from getting bored. Also if I feel like I am getting out of the move a grab my wedge and hit some shots to targets under 80 yards just to reset my mind and body. I think the biggest thing for me is the videos. I usually record 3 swings then look at the then do it again.

Also, what do you use those tee-claws for?

I use it for everything honestly. I use it for alignment, target line, swing path, chipping and putting drills. Right now it's key for my swing changes. I tend to have my head move back and to the right on my down swing and right. With the TeeClaw I make a T and try to keep my right eye on the line during the downswing.

Question: for clubs like wedges that get a lot of use .. especially considering all the practice time and number of shots with them - do you have a set of "comp" and a second set of "practice" wedges?

No I use the same ones then I just replace them when the time comes. I usually replace them every 6 months. But so far the RTX-3 are holding up unbelievably well.

Sounds good, thx. I used to ski a lot and ski bum over whole Winters; at one point I was working on skis in a shop. Racers would come in with multiple pairs of skis - all carefully marked (with a sharpie) - to distinguish eg. "Practice A" from "Race A" .. the idea being to keep their race day set "fresh".

Put in some really good work at the range last night and I am really happy with the process. Playing in a Men's Club Tournament Saturday we will see how it goes. Not the most competitive event but still it's competition.

While I was looking up Mid-Am qualifying sites last night it turns out there is one at the course I grew up playing and I worked there also. I made it past the local stage of US Open qualifying there a long time ago lol. I am pretty excited. The only down fall is if I make the All Armed Forces Team the world championships is during that qualifier.

Hmm, tough choice.. if you have to make it... If it does come to a conflict - are you able to compete in any other Mid Am qualifiers (somewhere else, on another date)?

There is another qualifier closer to me on a different date that doesn't conflict with the Armed Services Championship should I make the team.
