instaReview - Cut Golf Grey golf balls

The logo isn't an issue for me, but as someone that does not like lining his putts up with a line, I find that alignment aide a bit over the top - especially for shots from the rough/fairway/sand/fringe where you can't line up the ball so that it can't be seen

You line your ball up off the green?

Do you tee it up in the fairway as well hahaha

... I hacksawed open a Maxfli HT100 just to see what the inside was like. The rubber bands kinda "pop" but when I got to the little rubber middle it literally exploded and some of the goop got in my eye. Got a little nervous because it stung pretty good but it washed out and I didn't have any problems. LOL I didn't realize it was pressurized.

I never cut one open with a knife or a saw because my old man had told me a story that happened back in the 40s or early 50s Said that this guy he knew cut a Maxfli open to see and the stuff squirted in one of his eyes and permanently blinded him in one eye. I have thrown them in a fire and watched the rubber bands pop and then the center sorta pop when it exploded.

... I wish your Dad had told me! It took a few days for the stinging to completely go away. Not one of my brighter moments, but I was young. Yea, that's it. I was young.

Not humour.

Agreed, I did a mini-review of the Blues a while back and the poor design and screen job on the logo just made it seem like a lower quality ball than it was. Aesthetics absolutely matter or people shouldn't care what any equipment looks like!

... To be fair, what equipment looks like is quite different than the logo on a ball since all golf balls basically look the same at address. I think a more accurate comparison could be an equally "offensive" logo on the sole or rear of a golf club. WRX is filled with metrosexuals that refuse to play a club regardless of how well it performs if the sole or cavity has a logo or paint fill or writing that does not coincide with their fashion sense. And as always, it is not my place to judge what criteria people use to make their purchases, but if the TP5x had a normal size logo of a pile of sh!t on it, I would still play it.

The smaller more refined logo on the cut balls does not bother me at all, but it became a review point based on feedback from everyone I showed the ball to. I would definitely rank the percentage right at 50% of people who immediately loved or hate the it. You guys may laugh at this and that's great feedback, but when giving overviews of the products this becomes a valid point.

Yes, just like in life there is always a percentage of the population who don't get bother by things, but then there's another percentage that has it's own quirks. For example I have always, since I was 8 and starting out, used the logo side of a ball (not alignment or model side) to give me a rough estimate of alignment when teeing the ball up. I've always found it easier to address the ball this way off the tee and laugh all you want, but I'm actually distracted by non-traditional logos such as the solo Bridgestone B or say OnCore golf's large graphic. Call it a quirk, but it helps me a lot.

... You are not talking aesthetics as an accessory, you are talking function and I certainly get that. I wouldn't even call it a quirk, just the routine that you have developed. Now about that mustache ...

... If Cut balls have a mustache like the porno guy in your avatar, they have a bigger problem than a controversial CUT logo.

When I was purchasing used grade AAAA Pro Vs I had a deal going. One of my ball diver suppliers said that logo balls were hard to sell even in AAAA condition. On that deal I am like you in that it does not bother me in the least if it had a logo of a pile of sh!t on it. LOL I do remember one used Pro V that had a logo for an Porta John company on it with a outhouse. Lately I have been playing new Master Grip C-4 balls or the Super Soft Callys new. On your other thought I have seen on other forums guys that refuse to play (insert name of offending company) equipment because they think the company is a bunch of scumbags no matter how well they hit the equipment. Personally I play what works for me. I am not brand loyal except in the classic department which I am a Macgregor and Toney Penna collector. But even there I am known to slip out my Wilson 4300 laminate driver at times or even some of my Izett woods. Occasionally I have been known to slip out with a set of Hogan or Spalding irons too

I have been using the logo side of the ball for years to line up the ball on the tee and putting. Something my old man taught me many moons ago

I've played them to the mid 40's and didn't have an issue with feel. Sadly this weekend frost cancelled the ultimate temp test...

Played the White today.

Temps started at 40 and got up to 55.

This ball was butter and to me it reminded me of the Ksig.

Think I have found my gamer.

I have played the white, which was closest to my normal gamer, the Srixon Q-Star and loved it. Tried the the blue and liked it better, then they came out with the Grey and it's the in between the white and blue and it feels like butter! I love it! I really liked the Z-Star but refused to pay $45 A dozen so that's why I played the Q-Stars and to me I get what I got from the Q-Stars which was less side spin off the tee, but get the spin around the greens like the Z-Star bc of the urethane cover. The Grey has become my gamer! I've played in temps as low as 40° to 90° here in Arkansas and didn't see any losses in the cold temps. Amount of spin will also have something to do with type of greens as in how soft they are. I've played on soft and hard greens and still get action from this ball, which I like.

This is a great golf ball. I like how soft they are, if you need a more firm feel (giggity) try the Cut Blue. They felt very pro v1 x to me.

I'll need to give them another go. Does anyone know if they do their own design/engineering? Or are the balls someone else's IP? Not that it matters if they perform.

As for the aesthetics, I'd rather look bad and win than look good and lose.

Actually I used to play brand new Pro V logo over runs. Had some that had a picture of an out house on the side advertising some Jiffy Johnny company. Did not bother me one bit. As far as the back of the club I have played lead tape covered blades for years. The back of the club does not bother me one bit. The only thing that concerns me is how it sits as far as sole bounce and offset on irons. Now for some reason the white drivers and fairways bother me on the few I have hit. Somehow I have trouble orientating lining up the ball and I get glare. But if I could hit one good well Home Depot sells spray flat black primer for $2 a can and I would not hesitate to primer it or black it.

Now that's hot roddin'!

That is why my golf shop at the house is know as Stu's Rat Rod Golf. I basically build stuff from several sets and modify stuff to work. Like I did on hot rods and Harleys for years. I rode primered Rat Harleys for years before it became "cool" also drove rat pick ups too. Still have a rat beater pick up and it is a "natural patina" rat truck too no put on patina and rust.  LOL my buddy the Miura dealer has another name for my golf shop as in "Stu's Little House of Horrors"
