THE TEST

I want to let the data speak for itself. But first, here's some important definitions on the scoring criteria:

1. Test Scoring - Ranked 1-3 in each category. Like golf, lowest score wins. Overall categories are doubled. Three putts hurt your score. Four putts count as 2 three putts because wtf.

2. Score - Ranked on average over the 3 rounds.

3. Quality of Miss - Only averages missed putts. Didn't want the "0's" from made putts to skew the results.

4. Make Percentage - # of one putts divided by holes played.

Without further ado:

Slfs6sq.jpg

There you have it! I guess I was too hard on the Fang for my review as it performed admirably in this test. I'm not surprised that it won because I tried to create a test that any putter can win. I'm mostly surprised that the X-Dream fell so far back.

Throughout the test, I was under the impression that the X-Dream was winning. I guess the Fang was just quietly sweeping them in while my attention was on the fancy new putter.

iv5gkXQ.jpg

Just because I had the data, I analyzed strokes gained based on play order. Not surprisingly, the last to go had an advantage (see CG2's raffle putt). This makes me happy that I tripled the test load to (hopefully) eliminate that variable.

mdZnizH.jpg

For a humbling moment, here's how I stack up against the PGA. Looks like my practice plan for next year will include a heavy dose of 5 footers. I can somewhat reason with the fact that the putting green is shaped like a floppy hat with significant break outside 3 feet.

phbDj86.jpg

Then here's a ranking of categories that matter to some but don't really matter in the grand scheme.

Thanks for riding along. Stay tuned for my asterisk rankings including the MLA Tour Classic.

Phenominal job on that data and presentation...Thanks for all your effort on it.

Guys hope I do this some justice. I did a quick test of the 3 following putters. I found as Flat a place as I could on one of our greens that was underwater from Irma but has recovered well. I chose this green because it had just opened and nobody was using it yet.

I took 4 tees at 90* to the hole at intervals of 3', 6' and 9'. At each spot I hit 4 putts from each putter for total of 16 putts per putter.

The only data I recorded was misses. Per 16 putts.

Ball, Nike Hyperflight

The 3 putters;

MLA ProXDream

Odyssey #7 Oworks

Lajosi carbon blade handmade

These putters 3 cannot be any different except they are all LH.

MLA 375gr, 34” Winn pistol grip

Odyssey 350gr, 35” Superstroke 2

Lajosi 340gr, 34” leather stitchback std grip

Love seeing your input on these Rick.   But more importantly, how nice is that course/practice facility.  Looks fantastic just from those couple pics.  Is that your home course?

Calculating, calculating, calculating, DING!

The results are in.

The winner may surprise you.

I'll be interested to see the feel difference between the Pro and Tour models to determine if the extra $$ is worth it.

Good luck, great putter.

Let me know if I'd like the original grip. I'm thinking seriously of replacing it.

I've never really agreed with Winn grips no matter what club. The other stock grip (Forward) is really nice but I can see how some folks might not like it.

I don't want to put this into play until the greens are thawed out and I can get a more realistic idea of how it rolls.  When Stud, Rob and I were out, the greens were not running like normal (hell, there was snow on several of the fairways for the first three holes...)

I do have an oversized grip on my Cleveland mallet, so will probably opt for that to keep the wrists from influencing my putting, but that is down the road ...

I think I may have found a side challenge for these putters similar to mpatrickriley's soccer game.

Bowling

Still trying to hash out the rules and scoring and such but this ought to keep me busy during the winter while I'm indoors.
