Any detailed thoughts on the CMB or XTD forged?

I keep reading how great they are but also how you must be able to consistently find the middle each time.

I'm wondering if they can make an average player better by not being so forgiving....if you know what I mean?

Dude: I loved my CMBs till some meth head broke in my shed & stole em. Had Matrix shafts. I'll just say I'd still game em if I had them

Edit to add: I think they played/forgiveness a lil better than my Wishons

I may be wrong on this but I have always said TMag bought them for their Fairway wood and Hybrid technology. I do know Adams was having some financial problems at the time and Barney Adams was wanting to retire anyhow. I know for a fact that Super S 3 wood I am bagging is one pocket rocket and the 5 wood ain't bad either. I also have an older Adams GT 5 wood that is a pocket rocket too

They really bought them for the speed slot technology that you see in all of the woods and the last few years in the irons as well. Adams had it first and TM wanted to expand on it.

Are Adams irons the diamond in the rough of a sea of forged irons that are constantly underrated...or are they just another club?

I gamed the Adams A2OS irons way back then gave them to a teacher whose clubs were stolen, in exchange for a golfweek if instruction for my two grandsons.

Currently, I have recommended the Adams Blue series for beginners.

Stroker- Adams forged irons were consistently some of the best out there, they just never got a lot of exposure. Go find a set or two and give them a ride!

Plus- the prices on used sets are pretty sweet now that Adams is gone.

Let us know what happens, DLK!

Got word from the USGA this morning on the Speedline 3502 TS Proto.

Just as I suspected, when Adams initially submitted this head there was an issue with the V-channel design running through the hosel. My helpful USGA representative subsequently "recommended" that I not put it into Championship play for the reason stated above. At the urging of the USGA, Adams agreed to not produce any 3502 TS heads for play. As a result, this is one of a handful in existence. I am likely to build it out anyway, smack a few tour balls, realize it's the greatest driver ever and then probably pay this unicorn forward to one very lucky Spy. Because it's no longer a gamer season priority for me, feel free to reach out via PM if projects like these peak your interest and we can talk potential build, trade, buy, etc.

I suppose it's back to the driver drafting table for me.

I really really wished Adams hadn't sold out to TM.  They made some of the most underrated product out there and TM has ruined it.

I don't think I would have a problem gaming that club. I doubt I will ever be playing in an "official" event. How much advantage could there possibly be since they were at least attempting to make a conforming club? Honest question.

On the subject of golf equipment, these are the sort of questions that keep me up at night and exactly what I intend to find out. The USGA decided there was an advantage and BIG STU used the term "hot tamale". That's enough evidence to pique my interest. I also think it's a really nice looking head.

TM seems to do that with brands they acquire. I used to love Maxfli balls (A10 and M3). Then TM bought them, took all of their patents and sold off the brand name to DSG.

I currently still play a bag comprised of mostly Adams clubs, for the most part they are great. I love my driver it is hard to replace a accurate weapon. My irons I bought in the game improvement category but I say they are built more for the super game improvement needs. They are easy to hit and launch but my swing is better so less offset for me would benefit my game. That all being said I do believe that they made great gear but buy what's best for your own game

How's this for luck?  My two favorite club companies are (were?) Ben Hogan and Adams. I have a ten year old Adams driver that hasn't been surpassed by anything else that I could get off the rack.  Maybe a real fitting could piece together something to beat it.  I had several Hogan iron that were replaced by some Idea Tech a4 forged irons that had some hybrids.  Recently those were replaced by the Hogan PTx's.

We will have to see how the latest iteration of Hogan manages.  I feel that they used to make some really great clubs.  Same with Adams.  Most of my playing partners seemed to think they were K-Mart clubs.  I'll take that as evidence that all the marketing dollars of the big guys are working.

So if you have some favorite lesser known brand, make sure you keep them out of my bag.  Or they will surely be swallowed up by some giant only to be snuffed out.

I totally understand what your saying. I also AMA Adams player and my biggest regret was selling my Adams A4 hybrid. Which I think is amongst the best hybrid ever crafted. My playing partners laugh at my Adams driver until they hit it and realize it's no joke. They were a great brand
