XR1 vs. Epic

Hello, I am new to board and look forward to getting to know everyone as I find my way around.  What brought me here is trying to find an answer to a question regarding Callaway drivers.  Currently, I have an XR1 with 9 degrees and Draw bias settings.  I am not a long hitter at all, 240 on a good day.  My question is simply, with all of the same settings and same shaft as the XR!, would the Epic outperform it in terms of distance and control?  It is a lot of money to put down and I am waiting for a warmer and dryer day to test drive one and compare, but thought I would ask ahead of time.  Thanks for your feedback.

Maybe. Maybe not. It all depends. Not exactly a great answer, is it. IF the one you have is a relatively poor shaft fit and a new one that you try is that one perfect needle in a haystack then yes there will be a difference. But if you swing the club at 90 miles an hour (reasonable assumption given your info) the ball is going to go as far as it's going to go. Can you get 20 more carry yards out of a perfectly fit driver? No, unless you're currently in the worst fit ever. Can you get 5 more carry yards? Maybe. Within the realm of possibility. Is that worth $400+? That my friend only you can answer.

Lots of variables missing. Launch and spin particularly with your current gamer. I had the XR pro and found the Epic was better for me. Was able to control my spin and get significantly more out of it, especially on off center hits where I think the Epic is superior to most other drivers. When middled, most of the newer clubs will all perform. Getting the right launch and spin is where you will really see gains if your club isn't set up for your swing.

I agree with this post. The only other thing I would add is that newer drivers may be more forgiving on off center hits which could mean some performance boosts. Would probably only be a few yards and may not be worth the expense.

To all these I will add the question, if typical striking is higher on face of club, would that impact distance control as well?

Of course.   I think the general rule is that hitting higher on the face reduces spin which may a good or bad thing for your particular swing.
