So I'll be playing tomorrow in the eye of the California inferno, with 40 mph winds expected and gusts up to 80...

 

Should be a hoot.

Yes, steady 30 gusting over 50 in Ireland.  Stay centered, swing within yourself, and don't take it too serious!.  Good luck

My balance is off when there's no wind so I have to anchor  my ole arse down when the wind pics up! I don't like playing in the wind but hey, sometimes you got to roll with the tide.

Every round at my club is windy. Being in the water a 20 mph wind is considered a light breeze.

Played both Monday and Tuesday when the wind was making all kinds of trouble starting and fueling the forest fires here in SoCal. It was fun judging the wind. The group was calling how many clubs wind on each shot. On one hole I was hitting a draw that drift 30 yard right :)

 

Heck I don't even have to wait for special occasion, about half the time at Sierra lake in Fontana or a couple of courses in Beaumont would offer this kind of wind challenge.

My last trip to Ireland.  My caddie looked at the pin on the elevated green and said it was 165 "on the ground."  She thought about it and said, it will play 220 to 240.  I hit the best 4 wood of my life to get pin high.  Hard to explain to non-links players that it was a great shot.  A 165 yard 4 wood?  Big deal.

I never played over seas links style course but talk to a guy 2 handicap played same course 2 days in a row. on par 5 1st day hit driver 9iron - 2nd day hit driver 3 wood 6 iron wt beeb thats sone wind

Oddly it didn't blow until we got to 15, but it was howling everywhere else.

Course was virtually deserted - bunch of chickens I guess...

We get a lot of wind at my home course, most days it's a 1-2 club breeze, but it can get crazy. Strongest I've seen it there was ridiculous, 10th normally plays into and from the left about a club and it's usually driver and a 50 yd pitch, I've had to hit driver, 3 wood to get to the front edge when it really blows.

That is my club on a Saturday in the summer. Played in Saturday morning in the men's game and hit driver, 7 iron into the 530 yard par 5 4th downwind. Played it in the afternoon with my son when the wind shifted and hit driver, hybrid , 9 iron into the wind. I thought hybrid would leave me 100 yards in and was off by 30 yards. #13 downwind is a drivable par 4 but into the wind I have hit driver and 5 iron. Needless to say I have learned to hit the ball a lot lower the last few years.

Still windy here in SoCal, can't stop the fires either. Right now outside at 9:00 pm, it's blowing stuff over in my yard.

Plus it's made my sinuses all whack-
