Are your feet really shoulder width apart?

Ive been playing around with stance width a little the last few weeks along with ball placement. Ivr gone narrower because I feel I can control ball placement and control things a little more. I narrowed up my driver last year and feel that I hit more fairways because if it.

Depends on what I'm hitting.. Driver is more than a shoulder width apart - LW and feet are close together.

I heard many times over the years when taking my golf stance for a full swing, start with your feet shoulder width apart. Sounds reasonable as a comfortable, natural position for a solid golf shot.

 

I have however been noticing that my stance may be a bit wide and have been working on a narrower stance. It feels a bit weird at first, but I've noticed with my narrower stance my hip turn is much more fluid and quicker and has been a real eye opener for me.

 

Has anyone else gone to a more narrow stance after years playing shoulder width or slightly wider? How has it worked for you?

I was always taught a firm solid base, feet at least shoulder width apart......

 

I was also taught a very useful drill of feet together to aid timing, syncing body and arms together....

 

it was at the range last week I did the drill and found my iron shots only a few yards shorter so I've narrowed my stance and it certainly promotes a better hip turn which is the main thing I dont do properly. I tend to get stuck and sway forward in the downswing as opposed to turning. working well so far

I have a stance width that is about as wide as my hips. The wider I get the less ability I have to make a proper turn aloe get behind the ball

Wow, I always thought a little wider than shoulder width for feet placement. Might have to bring it in and see if that fixes some of my issues. Thanks!

I'm with you on that - just bit wider. Much wider than that and I lose my balance.

 

However when I go to the driving range I start out with my feet together
