Jumbomax Grip Opinions

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen and Ladies,

I am looking for anyone who may have experience with the Jumbomax line of grips to give me their opinion. I am currently looking at a variety of grip options and these do have me intrigued, however with no one in my local area carrying them, it gives me pause before jumping in with both feet. Any thoughts or opinions will of course be appreciated.

To give you an idea I normally go with midsize grips, plus a wrap and prefer those with less taper to them, think MCC4, Lamkin Tour Tapers and Tour truck options, among others, hence the interest in the Jumbomax line.

I played with the grips for most of one season.  I liked the size of the grips, but after a while I developed pain in my right elbow.  I have a couple of friends that use the grips and they have not had any problems.  I switched to a different jumbo grip, but one that is much smaller than the Jumbomax.

One additional consideration is that the Jumbomax grips weigh a lot.  They threw off my clubs' swing weight dramatically.  The jumbo grip I went to weighs the same as a regular grip--so no swing sight issues to deal with.

Jumbomax offers a three grip trial pack if you want to try them out.  I put one on a wedge, mid iron and my driver to try them out.

Thanks for the input. Re weight: an interesting thing to think about for sure. Looking at what I would need would be the mediums so 105 g, my mid sizes right now are in that 60-70 gram range. Interesting thing to consider, could they serve as a counterbalancing effect or throw off weight as to affect energy transfer in the ball, more importantly, will the slight weight difference make much of a difference to me. All things to think about.

I might wait until Cobra comes to the area for a demo day since I think they would have some jumbomax grips on shafts to demo with their one lengths but the trial pack sounds tasty.

The XL's are massive... and they're a massive PITA for those of us that build clubs when people say they want the same swingweight as before. If you do it right, you have to disassemble then reassemble to get swingweights right. Or cake lead tape on them. And honestly I don't know how anyone could or would play with them. Buddy of mine swears by them though.

In The Bag
Driver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x
Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

I have a jumbo grip on my driver and had lead tape on it however I pulled it off and it works pretty darn good.  I am going to Club Champion to get fit soon and I will have an opportunity to fine a combo that works best for me.

Well guys, thanks for the responses, but I think Lamkin made this decision for me. They're running a huge sale on Tour Spec UTX grips with a reminder in midsize in total red for 3.75 a grip. Can't pass that up

I played 1 yr with them - I wear I mens xxl glove 6'5" 215 - anyway - this is before jumbo max had current grip dechanbeau uses - the jumbo max tour something or other which is much better than original grip both in tackiness and feel - tried tour on a club like a yr or two ago better but went back to golf pride. Thing you have to remember its a fairly heavy grip and makes over all club heavier. Try it on 1 club see how it feels go from there?
