MGS Outing In Myrtle Beach?

Hi Guys, with the cold winter setting in here, I took it upon myself to do some investigating on a spring Myrtle Beach trip.

I know there has been a lot of general talk about a MGS outing of sorts. And while this would certainly not be anything on a grand scale, I was wondering if we could round up enough say 8 guys and head to Myrtle for a weekend of golf and some fun. So this is just based on checking with one planner, I know there are others and I certainly don't mind doing all the leg work if there is some semi-serious interest. Also a thanks Shout Out to Big Stu who said he might know another planner for me to check with just to compare.

So in summary this is what I inquired about. I can certainly be flexible to a point, however due to other obligations, anytime before early April is probably out for me as is anytime after early May. But the weekend of April 6-8 seems like it could be a good way to kick off the "unofficial" start to the season for most of us.

So I'm copying and pasting the quotes I recieved, but to summerize for those of you on an APP or TT that may not display corectly the net/net is

Arrive Thursday Night April 5 Depart Sunday April 8
3 nights/3 days of golf only 18 holes quoted, but we would have the option of replays or 9 additional holes. But also it's Masters Weekend, so we could retreat to the Condo to watch in the afternoon.

2 Bedroom/2 Bath Condos 4 people per Condo. Both packages are right about $440 per person. From what I understand this is Myrtles peak golf season, and prices are a bit higher than other times of the year, and Prime spaces (golf and villas) go fast.

One is staying at Myrtle Wood Villas and playing these courses.

So think about it, look at your schedule and let me know if you think there is a realistic chance you'd could/want to make it. I know there will be lot's of "I would love to but dont' think I can" replies and those are fine, hopefully there will be other opportunities, whether this one comes off or not. But let me know if you really think you'd be in, before I go too much further on it.

I picked Myrtle as it seems like a pretty central location for a lot of us on the East Coast, and by then the weather should be pretty safe bet to be warmer than most of us northerners have!!

so what say you MGS?

Would be a ton of fun to play a few rounds .. and later raise a few rounds .. with fellow MGSers but don't think I'll be fully back into golfing shape yet .. just had hip replacement surgery one week ago. Rehab going great so far, but......

I didn't realize you had surgery.  Glad to hear it went well.  Does that mean you have a bionic hip now and are able to whip through with a 125 mph swing speed  

 

I had double knee replacement three years ago, so I know what those rehabs are like.   They are tough but worth it in the long run if you see it through.

I may me switching jobs and if I do I may not be able to but if I don't switch jobs I have a lot if PTO and I can make it. I find out this month if I get hired and then it's a crap shoot from there.

If I get the job I will be closer to Maryland and it would be a 40 minute ride from Lancaster.

I would love to get back east for a visit.  I've been to Myrtle Beach twice and have played the Cat courses shortly after they opened.  I expect they are totally surrounded by houses now.  My last visit was a for a friend of mine's 50th birthday bash; 10 courses in 6 days, rained every day but we played a lot of great courses.

 

I would certainly stay for more than the weekend; it's a long trip from the west coast!!  I may take some time to see old friends in the Johnson City, TN area and Georgia.  I do not know if those dates  will work, so I can not commit.

I'm very interested in this. I'm thinking DawgDaddy would be too however he has back surgery scheduled for January and it depends on how soon he will be back into playing mode.  Put me on your list and we'll have to see how big dawg heals up....

DDRyan. I'm open to any course or lodging solutions. Those were just from my initial inquiry and I wanted to give everyone an idea of what's possible

But I do hope ultimately to be able to move more freely. It was the left hip which is my lead side so , yeah, it could help. And from everything I've heard and seen - hips are much easier vs knees .. especially when you're only doing one at a time!

I did the glens courses too on the same trip with the cats courses. All Great courses!

Yep, we did them on one of the trips many years ago, the villas were really nice.  We were away from the action on the strip a bit, but it was nice to walk out of the villas and basically be on the course.

I know most of the courses you are looking at and the 1st 4 I played years ago when we owned a Condo @ Surfside Beach.

I've played both True Blue and Caledonia Golf and Fish Club.  I would play them again in a heartbeat, even though they are a little pricey.  Might make me try a little harder to make the trip!!!
