Best Blades Out Right Now?!

Recommended Posts

Hit the Mizuno MP18, and MP18SC, Mp18Mmc, and Mp18 Flihi, TM 730, Callaway Apex Mb and CB, Cobra MB/Cb, Wilson V6, 965, 745s today side by side all with the same shaft. In order of feel.

1. Wilson V6 (oh my, I see why these won)

2. MP-18 SC

3. Apex Mb / Tie with the 730's

4. Mp-18MB

5. Cobra MB/cB

6. MP-18 MmC

7. 965/745

Callaway's were #1 for a bit. Still the easiest MB's out of the bunch to hit the center. And Buttery soft. The 730's were easier for me than the 750's.

Oh and that Cobra F8+... is pretty friggin amazing

Since you are still fairly new and more than likely need some form of forgiveness I don't think you can beat the Maltby MMB-17. It's like a GI blade. Has a slight progressive offset, fairly long C dimension, and upon close up look are built almost like a cavity back.

It gives you that sleek look that everybody loves but few can play. ma0226.jpg

Ping Gap Wedge 52°

Cobra Pūr 56°

Vokey 60°

Callaway PM 64°

That should do the trick

I can't handle blades (anymore), but if I could my list would be short:

  1. Mizuno MP-18 (maybe with MP-18 SC long irons)
  2. Titleist 718 MB (maybe with 718 CB long irons)

Well, their name has “blade” in it, and I can't believe they haven't been mentioned, but the Ping iBlades are the best blades I've ever hit from a “forgiveness” standpoint. I could play these all day!

Like a few others habe said, my game isn't cut out for blades. But to play along.

Id throw these three in a hat, blindly pick one and be a happy man.

718 MB

MP 18

FG Tour 100

Depending on the Cobra 2018 “MB” release, I think I finally narrowed it down. The APEX MB's were the most consistent and longest for me somehow. Never thought I'd like Callaway but those things are about as classy as you can get, zero offset... so unless cobra does something spectacular I'm jumping on the Train.

That's a scary proposition. I've never agreed with Callaway clubs due to their typical offset.

Did you get to experiment with shafts too?

I play with the Callaway Apex MB'S, great clubs, enjoy them. If you haven't looked or tried the modern MB's, you should. Different from what I grew up playing

Why are you interested in a blade styled iron? Is your interest ego driven or data driven? If you’ve never lived day to day with a bladed styled iron I recommend you demo some for an extended period of time before jumping in. Consider this.......many of the greatest players in the world use muscle back and cavity back irons. From the PGA tour to the Senior PGA tour more and more players are utilizing the evolution of technology over traditionally engineered blade irons.

I agree some SG. But that’s like asking someone why they are interest in classic cars, boats, classical music, fine art, etc.

Not for everyone sure, sometimes you just want a chunk of American muscle or Japanese. I mean a 34° club is a 34° club right?

Not saying you are but when people are interested in these types of clubs people try to immediately talk them out of them into something else. Won’t ever hear anyone say don’t buy those SGI irons.
