You and I weigh about the same so maybe we can have a weekly weigh in starting the first of the new year. It will help us stay focused on the task. In fact, anyone who is desiring to drop those extra pounds should join us and post every Friday your lbs loss.

Ok January 1st we'll have a weigh in and then report back every Friday the results. Once you reach your goal you can stop. This is not a competition. It's a place to acknowledge and encourage our forum members.

Main goal is to get below 190 pounds, currently at 208. As well as returning to previous strength levels. I've been pretty bad with job changes over the last year, engagement and the holidays (of course)

Good luck to all in the new year!

Nice thread OG!

My goals are:

1. Rehab my shoulder (seem to have lost some mobility there, and therefore my swing speed is suffering.)

2. 7 days a week Yoga.

3. A solid workout routine.

4. 1-2 hour of golf practice during the work week, at least 2 rounds a week.

5. Find a putter that works for me.

6. Meet and play a round or two with some MGSers!

Just want to say I'm impressed by the number of responses centered around getting fit .. I wish you guys well with this and hope you stick with it .. it's the BEST thing you can do for yourself (benefits to golf game and swing speed will follow).

Re: a comment about a big guy cracking it at the range...

When I'd first started with golf I went to the range (with a set of ladies clubs I'd acquired from my late Mom) to try and figure out how to hit the ball. I think I needed the driver to get to the 50 yd marker! But I'll always remember the sound of this *CRACK!* from the other end of the range .. seriously it was like I was standing right next to ((..name your favorite pro home run slugger..)) putting one over the center field wall and out into the parking lot!!

Well I look over and this is a big boy. I mean .. large. Maybe like 5' 10" but well into the upper 200s, maybe 3 bills large. Wide all around .. big, thick chest with a bigger belly and big arms.

Now I'm kinda short and scrawny so an immediate conclusion that came into my mind is that if I ever wanted to make the ball go I would have to (1) learn good technique and (2) stay in shape to (literally) support that swing technique.

I really don't know what my max distance is .. and hopefully my swing is still evolving and so my distance still improving a bit .. but I will gladly trade off having a 300 yd drive for being able to walk the course, and walk in and out of bunkers, and walk up and down hills to get to my ball.

Ha anyway, long disconnected ramble aside - good luck guys!!!

Based on a previous post recommending 'yoga for golf' I'm going to try a couple of the free videos. Looks interesting but want to make sure it fits before I spent the $$ for the individual videos.

Current routine (I have the equipment in my house):

Elliptical every other day 20 min (focus on getting rate rate into the aerobic rate 80% plus)

Total Gym - every day using a 6 day video program - repeat after 1 day break

Sit-ups - currently at 40 (daily) but increase by 5 every two weeks

Push-ups - currently at 30 (daily) but also increase by 5 every two weeks

Rotation - currently at 125 (daily) maintain at this rate

'yoga for golf' (if it fits)

Commit to doing this every day - first thing in the morning ( if I don't I can find lots of excuses during the day not to do them)

Oh and lay off the sweets and high salt foods

2018 Fitness goals

I'm setting my jogging goal at 1000 miles

I'm planning on doing more pushups when home, figure 15 an hour after work and jog

Figure if I eat right everything else will fall into place.

My golf goals I've been working on.

Fitness wise I'd like to put a bit of work into core strength. Considering trying Pilates.

Golf wise, I'd love to make my clubs pennant team. Been close the last couple of years but form lapses at the wrong time have cost me.

Otherwise, my main goal is to survive my oldest daughter's final year at high school, while still encouraging her to put the required work in.

Count me in as well.

Need a lot of motivation and this will hopefully help.

Fitness goals:

• Drop 20lbs

• Hit the gym at least 3 days a week starting out (job offers multiple discounts to different gyms so this should be no excuse)

• Eat healthy

This has been a rough year as I just retired from the military and began my civilian career. Finally slowing down to get my game in order

Unfortunately I am going to have to join a gym for the first time ever. These temps near 0 all the time are making me not want to workout in a gym without heat.

Most of us spend money on crap and forsake our bodies. Gym memberships are a good investment plus most gyms have classes to help you and included in the cost (excluding personal trainers) .

Gym memberships are perhaps one of the best ways to waste your money. (excluding ole gray of course) They're certainly not an investment. I put gym memberships in the same category as hot tubs, boats, and home treadmills. I only wish I could get a dollar for every gym membership that lasted no more than three months before the sucker quit going.  :D  Guess what I'd be? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If you don't use them of course it's a waste.  I see tons of new members every year join up with good intentions and then fizzle out.  You have to be sold on the idea that this is a life change and not just a quick let's lose some pounds thing.

I think a gym member will do me well because it will get me away from the strongman equipment and I won't be tempted to go back to it, so I don't bulk up again.

Here are my goals for 2018:

Fitness: Drop 15-20 lbs.   Mostly need to eat better;  hectic schedules lead to eating out way too much.

Golf:  Fix my short game and drop my handicap back down to a 5 or lower.  And the goal that has remained on my list for a few years is to break 70.
