GolfSpy Barbajo
You and I weigh about the same so maybe we can have a weekly weigh in starting the first of the new year. It will help us stay focused on the task. In fact, anyone who is desiring to drop those extra pounds should join us and post every Friday your lbs loss. Shankster
Nice thread OG! My goals are: 1. Rehab my shoulder (seem to have lost some mobility there, and therefore my swing speed is suffering.) 2. 7 days a week Yoga. 3. A solid workout routine. 4. 1-2 hour of golf practice during the work week, at least 2 rounds a week. 5. Find a putter that works for me. 6. Meet and play a round or two with some MGSers! cksurfdude
Just want to say I'm impressed by the number of responses centered around getting fit .. I wish you guys well with this and hope you stick with it .. it's the BEST thing you can do for yourself (benefits to golf game and swing speed will follow). Re: a comment about a big guy cracking it at the range... When I'd first started with golf I went to the range (with a set of ladies clubs I'd acquired from my late Mom) to try and figure out how to hit the ball. I think I needed the driver to get to the 50 yd marker! But I'll always remember the sound of this *CRACK!* from the other end of the range .. seriously it was like I was standing right next to ((..name your favorite pro home run slugger..)) putting one over the center field wall and out into the parking lot!! Well I look over and this is a big boy. I mean .. large. Maybe like 5' 10" but well into the upper 200s, maybe 3 bills large. Wide all around .. big, thick chest with a bigger belly and big arms. Now I'm kinda short and scrawny so an immediate conclusion that came into my mind is that if I ever wanted to make the ball go I would have to (1) learn good technique and (2) stay in shape to (literally) support that swing technique. I really don't know what my max distance is .. and hopefully my swing is still evolving and so my distance still improving a bit .. but I will gladly trade off having a 300 yd drive for being able to walk the course, and walk in and out of bunkers, and walk up and down hills to get to my ball. Peaksy68
Fitness wise I'd like to put a bit of work into core strength. Considering trying Pilates. Golf wise, I'd love to make my clubs pennant team. Been close the last couple of years but form lapses at the wrong time have cost me.
