Are you taking classes or free wheeling it? Trainer?   The main thing is develop a routine and stick with it. Before ya know it you will be hooked!  Just know that there will be some cranky old muscles to begin with. They're not used to being abused.....  :D

Pretty much free wheeling. We were members at a gym in CT then Planet Fitness for years. I stopped going 3 years ago when my knees stopped cooperating. Talked to my GP and we got a plan worked out that shouldn't kill my knees & hips.

My suggestion would be to fall in love with the Elliptical machine. I've had multiple knee surgeries and a broken hip so I had to look at low impact cardio.  I rarely use the treadmill as there is still some pounding on the old joints and especially the knees.  Minor use should be ok however listen to those old joints.

Elliptical kills my hips so that's out. Recumbent bike works OK. Then weight machines. Gotta getit goin.

Totally late to this party. My wife and I are starting this journey on the 8th officially but I'm going to start now. April works great as I have a beach wedding for my brother in May. I'm ~308lbs now (I'll weight in later) and I'd like to get to 275lbs by then. Big goal but attainable as a lot of my weight is from drinking entirely too much soda.

My issue wasn't the exercise it's the motivation. But I keep having dreams of greater flexibility and long drives so that will keep me going. Just finished up day 3 in my workout room. Pushed myself with one extra sit-up, push-up, etc.

Operative word so far this week is ‘Ow!'

That stiffness and soreness feels great in a tormented way - kinda like my golf game.

Maybe a helpful article.

Highly recommended the Nike Training Club app on those days you don't feel like going to the gym. Several in home workouts you can do for free.

Don't sweat it, you'll have fluctuations. Only weigh yourself once a week or every second week. Jumping on the scales every day or two doesn't help your mindset.

I started back to work today, which is also the start day for my “diet”. My son is going to help with the workout portion, and I will do low carb for the food portion. I weighed this morning at 265.1. Looking to lose 40 lbs.

Day 4 of my exercise commitment. Down 2 lbs from the New Years celebration. Guess that's what a combination of laying off sweets and booze plus working out will do . Another 8 lbs to go. Equally important I started working on flexibility.

Free weight workouts will give you some muscle gains so don't be afraid.
