LEGOS

Shankster

Recommended Posts

So, we just took our kids to Chicago last week. One of the main focal points was LEGO Land Schaumburg. Great City by the way, we did the museum, aquarium, Willis Tower, some shopping... saw a few courses I'd like to come back and play when it's not 0° and covered with snow.

Anyways, I remember spending countless hours constructing those sets as a kid. Now that my kids are big enough... man, there are so many LEGO's. We have been collecting the Minifigures since the original LEGO Batman Movie, it has became quite fun trying to find all of those little guys/gals.

Started on bigger sets with a Temple (Ninjago), and the Lightning Jet (Ninjago). They are hooked.

Anyone else ? Or am I the only one?

I even met Darth, Indiana Jones, and R2D2 at that LEGO Land. Wish those places were around when I was a kid.

My kids love Legos. One thing that strikes me today is that we used to get generic pieces to build whatever when we were kids. Now all the sets are so specialized and trademarked to some movie.

My kids were LEGO maniacs and my one son still is at age 30. He and his kids have a LEGO corner in the house.

My Grandson was really into the LEGO Stuff. I think he still is but more into sports right now.

I toured the LEGO plant in CT years ago as part of a manufacturing engineering group. Was pretty cool tour.

Check out Action Figure Therapy! They sell after market mini figures such as "Terminally Ill Contraband Manufacturing Underwear Science Teacher Minifigure" (aka, dad from breaking bad) and "Pop Singer Whose Only Crime Was Loving Children Too Much (And Maybe Molesting Them) Minifigure" (maybe MJ?)

Store

PS, maybe not the best site for kids... they do have some non-licensed stuff that kids would dig though, like every Marvel character, He-Man, Godzilla, you name it!

My 6yr old is super in to legos. Thankfully he can do them pretty much all by himself. My 4yr old got his first regular set for Christmas this year (as opposed to the junior or duplo sets). We put it together last night and he was sooooo excited it was just awesome.

The shear number of hours I've spent at the kitchen table supervising builds could probably rival time spent on MGS.

I hear you. My 3 year old is a monster and likes to eat and destroy everything my 7 year old builds. I had to start glueing the bigger pieces together unfortunately. Spent about 9 hours over Holiday break putting those things together.

Both my daughter and son are into Legos. I think they are great toys for the following reasons:

1. They aren't electronic. No charging needed, or batteries to run.

2. They stimulate the imagination. Sure you initially build something from the instructions, but inevitably you make your own creation.

3. Sets are mostly interchangeable... So a star wars Lego set can interact and exchange pieces with a ninjago or batman set.

Reasons why I hate legos:

1. We have a plush area rug in the family room. Kids drop piece in said rug and I envitably step on the lost pieces. Like walking on a carpet full of invisible tacks.

2. A buzillion pieces and my son can't find the one miniscule Lego piece to complete a build. Of course it's a one of a kind piece so no luck in using something from another set.

3. See number 1 😂🤣

Preach on!  Nothing worse than stepping on lego's.  I started wearing crocs around the house just to protect my feet.

I liked Lego but never really got many sets to build when I was a kid. My cousins would get sets that they'd build and take apart a couple days later when they were bored of it and they had two 50 gallon totes filled with them. We'd build random massive things when we were at their place

  • 5 months later...

My kids were *really* into them... my wife spent hundreds on the death star for my son one year for Christmas.  Yeah, the 500 dollar one ... she had a coupon and some 'lego bucks' but still....

we have what seems like every lego known to man.  so many legos that kids had sets they didn't put together and even getting some repeats.

now the oldest is 14 and isn't into them any longer and the youngest is 11 and never really was (just wanted to be like the older brother) and I've got a couple thousand dollars (easily) worth of legos just sitting in my basement.

what do I do?  save them for their kids?  sell them?  donate them?  build "displays" for them?

Funny you should say that....my wife had some when she was a kid ... just a few... and my kids used to play with them when they went to my in-laws house and were younger and we noticed that the older ones (these were from the late 70's/early 80's) were just a little bit different.  They were more substantial and held up really well.
