in4par
Not sure if this is the correct section to post, forgive me if not. I recently became member at a club and am newly on the "activities committee." They've asked me to come up with new ideas to start new family events, children events and adult oriented events. Looking for some input if anyone has them as to things that have worked well at their clubs if possible. One idea thats been circulating has been a parent/child putting contest. Thanks for your time. djahubes
We have a one day Father-son better ball which is good. Kids have to be 14 or older with exceptions for really good juniors. Also have a parent child separate for the golfing daughters. A family scramble may be a good idea as well. JAGolfore
Couple questions. Do you have a pool or tennis courts? I know our club uses these and has activities for both adults and kids. revkev
First welcome - most clubs have parent/child opportunities - also junior clinics or camps during school breaks and some sort of designated family time on the course. hckymeyer
We have a couples glow ball event every year, it's an absolute blast and the only time my wife golfs. For the kids we just have our junior clinic during the summer. I really like the idea of a parent/child putting contest though. I'm a member of a public course so we tend not to have a ton of events, but we did also start doing 3 or 4 couples 9 hole scrambles with modified rules in the evenings. They've been fun and well attended. Driver: SLDR w/ Fujikura Ventus Black 3w: '16 M2 hl w/ Diamana D+ 82 5w: Launcher HB w/ HZRDUS Yellow Hybrid: 22 deg. Golfspy_CG2
I'm at a public course, but we are pretty big on in-house events. We do a couple night golf (glow-ball) events during the year and they always sell out. Of course we do the summer camps for kids, we offer a couple different ladies leagues and one co-ed league. It's a weeknight one, that's 9 holes and meant to be very social, with drinks and snacks after the round. Our other most popular one is a Craft Beer Outing, we invite some local breweries to come in and set up sample stations during the round. GolfJunkie302
What about a one-club tourney or a marathon? Participants could get pledges and all proceeds could go to a charity. HardcoreLooper
We have a one day Father-son better ball which is good. Kids have to be 14 or older with exceptions for really good juniors. Also have a parent child separate for the golfing daughters. We do it all the way down to age 8 in a Shamble format with a few age groups. Girls and boys play in the same event - different divisions. HardcoreLooper
Tons of good ideas here. Another thing we do is a Greenskeeper's revenge tournament during the weekend before Halloween. We don't just do ridiculous pin placements; we'll put obstacles out on the course like flop walls in front of greens and other man-made hazards. JAGolfore
Along the craft beer idea, our club has done wine tastings, whiskey/bourbon tastings during couples golf. And we have a very nice junior golf program in the summer. tony@CIC
My home course has a Friday night couples scramble. They do a 9 hole shotgun start and then dinner and drinks after. My wife and I always have a great time. We have the same event at our club - ' Friday night mixed couples scramble'. My only complaint is that we don't do enough of them. During the summer we start out with every other Friday night then they seem to stop and pick up sporadically. So whatever you decide to do: get input from the members on the event and then set a season calendar in advance.
