TheWahoo
I noticed that TGC was advertising programming with Sean Foley, but it really didn't occur to me that he was replacing Michael Breed. Now I hear that Breed has left to pursue other opportunities with Golf Digest and to spend more time with family in the New York area. Additionally, I understand that TGC has purchased Revolution Golf and is incorporating Foley into that effort. To me, this is just interesting news because I don't pay a lot of attention to televised instruction, I find it best just to listen to my instructor. PlaidJacket
I thought Breed did a good job but I suppose it's time to freshen-up the GC with some new faces. I also think Martin Hall has gotten a little long in the tooth. As far as golf instruction on the GC is concerned I've mostly enjoyed seeing programming with actual tour pros showing and discussing how they play and hit various shots. And doing this out on a golf course. I've actually picked up some useful tips a few times from them. GolfSpy MPR
Not a Sean Foley fan. I've watch some of his lessons and end up saying "Huh?" He gets waaay too technical; too much to think about. I like technical instruction, and I still have to agree with this. I watch much of what goes up on Revolution Golf each day, but it never seemed to me that Foley got the idea of what a relatively short instructional video was supposed to be. Andrew Rice, for instance, will pick a single idea, and he seems genuinely happy to share it with you. The Foley videos I watched, he seemed to speak like it was an inconvenience for him to have to say these things to his audience. A matter of taste, I suppose. The LPGA hasn't started; the seniors haven't started, and the first full field PGA event starts today. I expect GC coverage to be back to some semblance of normal this week. I liked the "Playing Lessons" too; also Golf Channel Academy where they had a pro show how to hit certain shots. The golf movies are great once in awhile, but IMO this "dead zone" period would have been a great time to re-run some of the old techniques videos. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
golfinnut
With 17 years at the Golf Channel & it was time to move on. He is 56 with young children (5 & 6) so he wanted to be a father for a while. It was stressful getting on a plane from NY to FL at the Golf Channel & the Golf Fix & never being home. Now he's going to do golf instruction thru all different platforms from his home. I don't blame him one bit. He's lucky he has that opportunity and the ability to do it.
