Unique golf holes

Have you played any of these holes?

Let's hear your story!

I've not been fortunate enough (yet..there's still time) to play any of these but they look fun.

NOTE: How does Hell's Half Acre at Pine Valley not make the list ???  I've not played that either but it definitely sounds unique.

Any others you think should be on the list but aren't ?

The Brickyard really only has 1 "unique" hole inside the track, and that's the par 3 7th. It's hilltop to hilltop and you can see a good portion of the racetrack from both tee and green. I made an ace there in a tourney while cars were out running so have super fond memories of that one! The other holes inside the track are flat and you can't see much so they don't really register as anything special about them.

I think both #6 and #8 at Pebble fall into this category. I have never seen a 2nd shot that goes straight up a cliff like #6 and I've never seen an approach that is closer to death than the cliffside 2nd on #8. Was lucky enough to play there twice and I gave that edge a wiiiiide berth both times

Baywood Greens, a course in the Delaware portion of the Delmarva, has a par 4 incorporating an island.   However, it is not an island green but rather an island fairway.   It does have a bailout fairway to the right of the water, but it adds considerable length to the hole.   Using that fairway, if one has the length to still hit the green in two, one must still negotiate the water.  Me, I bailout and play to get on in three.

#5   I've played the #14 floating green at Coeur d'Alene resort on my birthday in 2011.  It's not that difficult of a hole, but I suppose it depends on how far out they move the green.  It's a nice boat ride, and we got a big chocolate chip cookie for the ride.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Played Oakmont a few times. The church pews are cool to look at off the tee and not so much fun to get out of.

At Lahinch, Ireland, the 4th and 5th holes both feature blind shots over sand dunes.  The 4th is a par-5 running directly away from the Atlantic in a valley between steep dunes.

http://www.lahinchgolf.com/courses/old-course-championship/old-course-hole-4/

At the end of that valley is another dune, maybe 20 feet high, which crosses the fairway.  You have your choice of a blind shot over the dune, or a safer play out to the right.  Just to make it more fun, the 18th tee shot runs from left to right, just on the other side of the dune.  When I've played it, there was a guy in a shack on top of the dune, telling when it was safe to hit.

After that, it seems logical that the 5th is a 160-yard par 4, also blind over a dune to a green in the valley beyond.  http://www.lahinchgolf.com/courses/old-course-championship/old-course-hole-5/ There's a white rock on top of the dune which indicates the line to the flag.

You want unique/gimmicky. How about a round at Meadows Farms in VA. The baseball diamond par 3 and the longest hole in the US, an 841-yard par 6.

That's definitely a trip on my list. I heard about the course a few years back but can never make the trip happen. It's a good 2 hours away so I'd need a whole day pass from SWMBO.

I played it twice when I lived in DC area, its an experience, think regulation size miniature golf course. There are actually 19-holes, this first one is just a warm-up.

That's a really cool idea to have a warm-up hole. I'd be mad if I shot a birdie on it though.

Maybe you can play 19 and take your best 18 scores?

Just north of Tampa is a course named Brooksville Country Club. They have three holes on the back nine that were carved out of an old quarry. Locals call them the “Disney” holes. Fun to play but difficult to navigate.

Wow! That's crazy. What a small world. We moved to Franklin in 2005 and live near Medway. Moved from N Attleboro and lived down the street from Heather Hills.

I've never played at President's...is it private?

Lived in Quincy for a little while and drove by the course often.

Most of Tobacco Road in Pinehurst NC is unique. It is an old sand quarry and looks devilish. Although very intimidating looking it plays very fair. Great great course. Ton of fun with roller coaster greens

I've played it. What makes a couple of those holes so ridiculous is that there is the absolutely brilliant Quarry course by Tom Fazio about twenty miles away. The Quarry works there, at Brooksville it's a gimmick.

That tee box at Purgatory had been closed for several years. Now it tips out closer to 600 and believe it or not can be reachable in 2 shots if it's dry. It's still a goofy, gimmicky course IMO. Green side bunkering and green contours are completely overdone. Its a good piece of land with a corny golf course on top of it
