Lunargolf
I believe golf is boring to people who don't play and so they don't realize the challenge of taking a 4 foot extension of your arms with a club, hit a ball and expect it 2 fall close to your target whether it be 20 yards or 200 yards. And that that's a difficult feat even for a person with a gun.

Beachbum
I have always found that some sports just simply don't translate to some people. If you are a non golfer I think it can be hard to appreciate what professionals do so routinely. You add in the monotone commentating and the subdued environment and it isn't something that draws people in necessarily. But when you get a taste for the game and appreciate the intricacies and nuance of the sport it can be down right addicting. Especially when someone is putting on a display of great shot making or two competitors are going back and forth it is an absolute thing of beauty. Unfortunately in a day and age where our lives are filled with constant stimulation it is not surprising at all that people would rate golf low on excitement. But, I can't really take this survey too seriously, some pretty major sports are not even on the list. RoverRick
I think this is crap. It may be true that golf is boring to watch on tv for the non-fan, but it also states that American Football is boring. That may be the case also, I watch golf, not much football. BUT the top 30 TV Shows in terms of viewership are pro and college football. So people must like to be bored. Cbk57
I don't watch a lot of golf on television, however the Tour De France starts in a few days. First of all I am a long time cycling fan and it used to be my primary recreational sport. Second, there is nothing more boring than watching 100 skinny white guys ride along a flat road in France where the big moment is when someone stops for a “nature breakâ€. It used to be you could get a good 30 minute or 1 hour highlight show and move now. Now they put on looping live coverage of the entire stage. On a sprint stage there is only about 2 minutes that matter. fixyurdivot
I suspect the poll has some tomfoolery going on here from the Curling fans just north of us . Funny thing is that when we're in Yuma wintering, you can look down the street (Park Model Park) and see many TV's on watching either curling or hockey. sirchunksalot
I was flipping through the channels and happened to come across televised badminton. Angry Yeti
Me too, but I was raised in a blue collar family, not a white collar family. Rugby League is played buy the "working class" while Rugby Union is more played by the University crowd. I was always told "Soccer is a gentleman's sport played by hooligans. Rugby is a hooligan's sport played by gentlemen". Usually at the Saturday local games, but folks were all League > Union. I'm not surprised golf didn't rank well in a poll about levels of "excitement". I love watching golf on TV, but I can't say it has the excitement per hour of other sports. Length of play and style of coverage is different. Consistent excellence vs fast paced and reactionary play. It builds over time and can come down to a few high pressure moments separating the top finishers. Alf. S
YouGov as far as I'm aware is a UK polling company so the results are going to UK centric (reason why there is no Baseball). Although I don't disagree with the overall results they are going to be heavily skewed by terrestrial TV coverage. Golf gets no coverage on terrestrial except for The Masters and The Open, the BBC coverage is average to say the least with Peter Alliss' commentary that hasn't changed in 30 years. It doesn't appeal to anyone except golfers. Sky (subscription) is more technology savvy and has a channel dedicated to Golf. It covers PGA, LPGA, European Tour, more. Golf coverage must engage the non-initiated, more Trackman, real experts and not waffle. Wayne Rylie on-course is excellent on Sky, 90% of the time he calls correctly the shot the player has to play and why before they play WIMB Driver Callaway Epic 10.5' Fujikura Stiff 3W Callaway Epic 15' Fujikura Stiff 3-AW Srixon Z565 Nippon Stiff 52', 56' Cleveland RTX 585 Wedges Putter Taylormade Rosa Daytona Bags 2017 Callaway Org14 Cart bag or 2018 Srixon Z start Carry bag

Shankster
This is an old one. But who ever voted it boring has never stood on the tee on a par 3 and got the racing heart from a dead online ball heading straight towards the flagstick. NiftyNiblick
I think that Rugby thirteens and Rugby fifteens are both more entertaining football games than soccer. Kenny B
Darts scores better than golf? This must have been a poll of non golfers and their watching preferences. I do think most non golfers would find it boring to watch on tv since they don't know or understand the nuances of the game. Before I started playing I couldn't understand why people would watch it. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy You have to read the qualifier in the title of the chart. "% of those who had watched each sport" So, how many golfers have watched all of those sports. If you haven't, you wouldn't qualify to vote. If you watched some of those other sports, chances are you probably aren't a golfer. Some people may find golf boring if they don't play. However, I suspect that even some people who don't play golf are partially responsible for the high ratings for tournaments where Tiger was in the field. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
NiftyNiblick
I loved those Saturday afternoon TV matches even more than tournaments when I was a young kid. Jimmy Demaret and Gene Sarazen did the commentary. Great fun, and a little educational too. The Squire would demonstrate shots and afterward, I'd try them in the backyard using those plastic balls with the holes in them. Do they still make those?
