How'd You Pick Your Screen Name?

hckymeyer

Recommended Posts

I haven’t frequented many websites where I needed a handle, so, when I signed up, I settled on the most generic name I could think of: Golfer56744. I’ve since shortened it to its current version to make it cleaner. It’s mostly just a placeholder until I think of something better or cooler, although I think the current version could eventually be a Ping model number (maybe in 1000 years at their current numbering pace).

Fun reading these.

richk9holes origin is my name, Rich K.

#9 was my uniform # in little league baseball. We got our uniforms based on the batting order to avoid arguments. I wasn't the worst hitter, but I was the usual starting pitcher for my team and the coach always put the pitcher at #9 for fairness.

Joining social media in the late 90s, early 00s I registered for everything as richk9 or richknine. I like the sound of it, like a more technical way of saying "Rich Dogg." In reality, I am of modest means in terms of humans, but relatively speaking I would be a wealthy dog.

For this forum, I figured a golf twist was in order. So richk9holes was born.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

bumping this up for any new members - a fun thread that gives some background on folks.

as for me I've been online a long time and I was trying to come up with something golf themed - Ace, another name for a hole in one (although I've never had one) - and then remembered this movie I watched when I was younger and thought that you have a golf "stroke" and went with it.
FWIW - I'm no Burt Reynolds and am not hot either on or off the track or course but I love cars and fast cars

As I mentioned in my introduction within the Paradym Irons Tester thread, my screen name “funkyjudge” is also a nickname that I have had for more than 20-25 years. The nickname was given to me by my boss at work, who later became a business partner, and with whom I played many rounds of golf. It started out as “The Judge” or just “Judge” [short for Judge Smails from Caddyshack …. Not because I act like that character played by the late Ted Knight (I hope not!), but because my name Doug Mael sounded like Judge Smails, at least to some of our co-workers].  It was modified to “the funky judge” when I was on a business trip in New Orleans and went out to listen to live music and do some dancing at some clubs in the French Quarter. When my then-boss saw me dancing, he said, “Hey, it’s the funky judge”. From that day forward, I was the funky judge.

To this day, many of my former co-workers, business associates and even the owners and the CEO of the 1,500+ employee company that I worked for address me as “judge” or “funky judge” in person, on the phone, in texts and emails.

This is a fun one to read other peoples thoughts and ideas as well as a quick way to get to know someone!

My handle is just my initials and then I played highschool golf here in Snowflake AZ and the mascot is the Lobo (which also happens to be in my signature). I will always love and remember my time playing high school golf so thereby it is in my handle.

Mine is a recycled screen name I used on a now defuncted other forum.  It originally stemmed from a comment my wife made to me about 30 years ago that I golfed too much (and I was playing less than I am right now).

Even with her comment, we are still married and celebrated our 40th anniversary last August.  I guess love can overcome anything!

My (current) wife and I have been together more than 42 years, and celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary last September. I didn’t even play golf when we got married because I was still playing competitive baseball at the time (I played a couple years of low-level professional baseball in the Puerto Rican League in the 1970s), but I started playing golf less than three years after we got married and was a 6-handicap golfer within 6 years of taking up the game.  I am sure that she has thought, and probably said, that I play too much golf, although she is quite supportive of my passion for the game. She eventually took up golf herself, and we play together several times per year, although she plays far less golf than I do.

Back in the day (when I was in the USAF) we were deployed for a NATO-wide exercise, I pulled a few rabbits out of my hat that allowed us to see the "enemies" actions and air activity when we weren't supposed to be able to. After accomplishing that a few more times, my commander came into the work center and asked how things were goin' and if I was "gonna do some more of that Merlin s@#t so we can beat them at their own game" and it kinda stuck and 13 has always been my lucky number. ABSOLUTELY no triskaidekaphobia here🙃

Absolutely the best job I ever had too.  I loved being on the course from dawn to dusk and doing it again and again six days a week.  I would have carried three bags if I had three shoulders.  I learned more about how to treat people than anywhere else in my career.  I met some of the most memorable people on the golf course too.  I might have a loop for someone I never had  met and by the time I was wiping the clubs off near the 18th green, I had another contact or friend.  It was great.

So true - Also learned to swear and gamble in the caddie pen but that's for another time.  My two brothers and I were also able to get a little stipend to help defray some of the college costs from the Ouimet Caddie Scholarship Fund which was great.  Always will be grateful.
