Maltby suggestions

Hey folks! So I'm in the market for some new clubs. I've really taking a liking to the maltby "forgiving" player club lineup if you can call them that. Being that I'm transitioning from supper GI to CB forged, these seem like a good transition club. I'm looking for comparisons, photos, recommendations, etc. So here's the skinny on my game.. I currently play gigagolf (don't knock em until you try em :P) single length GI cavity irons. They've been excellent in every way and an interesting journey into the single length concept. I spent countless hours working on swing mechanics in 2017. These days unless I really conciously throw the handle forward, I appear to have grooved a draw into my shot. A pull hook also shows up every now and again. I have worked on shaping shots but a fade definitely takes some extra aggressive body position/turn. I'm guessing it has something to do with the substantial offset on the clubs. Lately at the PGA superstore, I've been hitting different variations of blades and seem to be doing quite well and shaping seems effortless in either direction . now back to the clubs.. I'm looking at the 3 available player options.. Namely DBM, MMB-17 and the new PTM. I really like the simplicity of the DBM and am leaning that direction but the tech of the other models intrigues me as well. If anybody has anything to share, I'm all ears. Thx

First off welcome to the forum. Secondly I know we have a few guys who play Maltby clubs here so give them a few days to find this and they will answer. Don't get discouraged if they don't answer right away.

Having played and built Maltby clubs you cannot go wrong with any of those sets. I believe the DBM has the least amount of offset. But all are very good well made clubs. It's really up to your personal preference between those irons.

If you check my signature, you'll see I play the Malbty DBM's and the KE4 Tour hybrids. Unfortunately the hybrids are no longer available.

I really like the DBM, easy to hit and a good looking club in close to traditional loft, which I was looking at when I got them. I'm not a super technical person, but I will try to answer any questions you might have. Here's pics of mine when I first built them. I've now changed out the shafts to Recoil 680 and the grips are now Pure DTX.

Maltby builds some quality stuff. To be honest I was fixing to order a set of the DBM black heads like Matt showed us minus the hybrids and build them for me. I ended up doing a smoking hot deal for the 2013 X forged in my signature LOL footnote those 13 X forged cost me dearly but I love them. Traded a restored set of 59 Macgregor FCs with Neuman leather grips and a restored set of 68 Penna blades that had been rechromed and regrooved for them. If I had not done that deal the DBMs would have been in my bag

I think I'm sold just with just the pictures alone. Those are slick! I really love the simplicity of them and that they're a little more "player" looking. MattF you even answered a second question.. How would they look with red grips :) and Pures are also my grip of choice. I'm rockin the wraps this season and love them. I was also considering getting a KE4 4 hybrid to accompany the set. How do you like those? Thanks everybody for the quick posts!

I agree with the looks. I've never played Maltby but I'm sure they are high quality. Those irons Matt showed look great.

I'm wondering if you will build them yourself or have a fitter set them up? If building them yourself how do you know what shaft, weighting, etc.? Will you be able to adjust loft and lie?

I wish I had the equipment to do it myself. They do free setup so I'll just have them build the clubs. I'm about 6' 3" and play +.25" and 2* upright. They'll bend the lie for free too. As for shaft weighting, I'm just going to try and mimic the clubs that I hit at the pga superstore. S flex with the shaft in the 100g neighborhood. Mid flight as my down swing is slightly steep and flighting the ball is not a problem.

Thank you. I love the hybrids. Fairly easy to hit but still look like an iron, which is what I wanted because I did have Cobra Bafflers but just couldn't get used to the look.

Heard great things about the Maltby clubs and I have played with a guy who swears by them and can't be more happy with the quality. Since you mentioned that you had been hitting blades at PGA Superstore I would personally consider getting a combo set. Maybe something like 7-PW in MMB-17 & DMB 4-6? Obviously it wouldn't need to be that exact mix but MMB-17s is clubs your more confident with and DMBs in clubs you want some more forgiveness with. Maybe throw a hybrid or 2 in at the top and your golden!

I've tried to sneak a couple of those irons from Matt's bag to mine a few times with no luck. :)

Beautiful irons, easy to hit.
