Of course if all 60,000 spies starting posting regularly, I'd never play golf because I was too busy reading posts

I played with one of our so-called lurkers today.

I don't like the term. As far as I'm concerned they are members. Their contribution is invaluable. They read our stuff and have real friends that they share stuff from MGS with.

Thanks guys!

I can't believe I have over 500 posts. I'm usually a lurker on most forums, I don't know what's come over me.

I've been a member of another well known golf forum since 2006 and only recently cracked the 100 post mark there.

You can say that again. Even in the 1%, there's a lot of spam, senseless 3 word replies. It's about quality, not quantity.

I agree lots of posts are welcome to the forum also. I know until recently I never welcomed anyone now I try to welcome everyone. I feel like sometimes it's almost like a contest to get to a certain number of posts. I don't post on every topic I only post when I feel like I have something to contribute something useful. Even then sometimes I just contribute a smartalec comment to break tension if there is any.

OK so I know you used to be a reader but not a poster. Do you mind talking a little bit about what caused you to start posting more and, ultimately, become a regular poster?

Found a topic I was comfortable to post in and realized that all handicap opinions are accepted. Once I realized that I started to find more posts my opinion was accepted now I read every post and if I have something constructive to add I will post. If I feel that I have nothing to add I still just read.

I don't know about anyone else but this is my only “social media”. I hate Facebook and every other thing out there. This is somewhere I can come “hang out” with people that have the same interest as me. For the most part (95%) the post on here are valuable and educational. I feel comfortable with posting questions and comments without the worry someone will degrade my opinion. Love this site, all the contributors, and the great staff of MGS

I rarely go on Facebook. I'd be considered a regular on Twitter, but I don't use my real name so no one is able to just look me up from Facebook and start bogging up my feed

Same for me. This is the only social media I contribute to (if you want to call it contributing) the folks here are all welcoming and supportive to other members. Other sites I've belonged to were full of trolls and contrarians. This site is the best.

Pro tip. I use this every time when looking for a topic.

Google: MyGolfSpy “topic”

And I usually find what I'm looking for, and even some things I'm not, but they are still interesting.

Yep. No forum search engine is going to be as good as Google.

Pro tip 2:

If you want to be certain you get results only from MGS, search for

site:mygolfspy.com topic

Google will not return results from any other site that might have a page mentioning MyGolfSpy and your topic. This will return results from all of MGS (blog and forum).

Pro tip 3:

If you want to be certain you get results only from the MGS forum, search for

site:forum.mygolfspy.com topic

Agree wholeheartedly.

Thise who contribute regularly are only one part of the success of MGS.

Without forum "traffic" there would be less incentive for manufacturers and advertisers to support MGS, readers are necessary for the success of the place. If every reader felt the need to post all the time, it would get difficult to still get the information that makes this forum different to most.

Engagement is great, but not everyone wants to, so no pressure from me.

This is my modus operandi as well. I will also welcome people in the introduction section.

I have a lot of posts because I've been here and active for a long time. There are any number of people on this site who have become real life friends so we will banter if we get going on a thread together.

I had no idea how many posts that I had until someone brought it up recently. I just post when I think a reply is needed or when I have a question.

I fall in the 9%. I read most of the posts that I find interesting, but if I can't contribute something worthwhile or I don't want to add my 2 cents in, I don't.

Well said (and concur). I find the comments here especially on golf technique invaluable and motivate this high handicapper to do better. Occasionally I offer comments on technique or clubs but most times I defer to the experts. I do better on the social commentaries and most of my posts are in those areas. FYI my preference is to MGS or any other site be it social media or golf.

I gotta say. I'm appreciative to those that are stepping out here. Remember, we were all lurkers at some time.

I can say that I've learned just as much from high caps on this site as I have from low.

Lurk if ya want to and I'll l bet the farm if you hang long enough, you'll become comfortable and realize we're good folks.  Sit back and relax and when you have something to say, let er fly.  There's no frigging cliques where you have to earn your way into the community.  Everybody is equal and it's all about family.
