Titleist apparently struck a nerve with claims of how their new ball is better than the Chrome. Looks like the gloves are coming off so bring out the popcorn and let the fun begin. null
Titleist's new commercial compares tour balls to their new distance ball. Shankster
Just me: you know... this is at least the 2nd time in the past few weeks that Callaway has fired shots. That in itself is why I can't stand them. I get the reasons, but this is like watching the little kid who got picked last for dodgeball finally getting payback. Not a professional look for Callaway. STUDque
This is weird. I feel like I'm in an episode of the Twilight Zone. For one, that whole "X is # yards longer than Y" strategy is a desperate move that companies love to do these days. When they call out a competitor directly, they're basically admitting that that product is/was better. For two, this flies in the face of the empire Titleist has built. They've always had the aura of the "best period" whether it was true or not. They're helping to weaken their own foothold in the marketplace. Lastly, where the heck were the fact checkers on the day this campaign was signed off on? Did the execs think they were being slick by comparing a distance only ball to tour balls? I know they look at consumers as sheep but come on. I'm on Team Callaway here. They were right to call out Titleist. Hopefully the consumers do too. Shankster
Or maybe... they are saying that their “distance†ball is as good as the tour ball in all categories.
null
Or maybe... they are saying that their “distance†ball is as good as the tour ball in all categories. But they didn't. They said it was was longer and softer. And only if you have 12 degree launch angle, 140 mph ball speed and 2900 spin. Seriously. Read the fine print. Shankster
Haters gonna hate. They are just pulling a Bridgestone. I'd say just market your product and leave the other brands out of it. Shankster
I also hate misleading advertising. That's why I don't watch it. I do like “brands†to be professional, and the response to the ad from Callaway was childish, just like the one for the Hi Toe wedge. Major turnoff for me to the brand. Did Wilson call out Callaway? I haven't seen it, I wish they would.Dude Cmon. Companies steal ideas all of the time. Callaway didn't call out Titleist for coming out with a soft compression ball. They called them out for deceiving their customers by comparing a Surlyn distance ball with Urethane Tour balls.

tony@CIC
I wish the ball war would translate into discounted prices. Maybe every time they introduce a new version of a ball they would discount the old version kinda like drivers - let's say 2017 pro v1 at half the price of 2018 pro v1. Now that would be fun to see. VA_Golfer
Titleist has a problem here: they're trying to sell a 2pc distance ball for $35/doz. They need some way to justify that price point and IMHO this ad is one attempt to do that.
newballcoach
To say anybody stole the coloured golfball idea from Volvik is oversimplification. They weren't first to do it either. What I don't understand about the Titleist commercial is the graph where they rank feel. How do you possibly make a graph of something so subjective and pretend it's fact?
