Someone wanna try High MOI with P2 Grip

Recommended Posts

I'm passing on this Cure CX2 putter I just got with the P2 Reflex Tour grip. Just wasn't for me. This putter has only been rolled on the practice green and is in mint condition. I added an inch when I put on the P2 grip so it plays at 36".

I'll do $100 shipped via USPS Priority Mail to MGS members.IMG_20180130_082810.jpgIMG_20180130_082820.jpgIMG_20180130_082758.jpgIMG_20180130_082923.jpgIMG_20180130_082752.jpg

Although I'm not in the market I actually like the look of the putter. I could probably do well with it I'd bet.

For you interested buyers..... deejaid is a good reliable - honest guy to deal with. Speaking from personal experience. :)

Why is it when I'm in the market for something it's never on here, then when I pull the trigger somewhere else, bam there it is. Just my luck I guess.

I'm not in the market for a putter but I feel compelled to ask the question:

How come it didn't agree with you?

I'm just curious because I know you were super stoked to get it in the first place and the P2 thread was quite compelling.

Sure thing, I guess a mini review is in order.

I have been using vintage blade style putters for the last 20 years, mostly a 1950's H&B I bought in 2004 for $5. I had plenty of guys laugh at my choice of old fashioned putter, then pull something with a head the size of a frying pan out of their bag and still they couldn't make an 8 footer. I have never been averse to tech, but the tech needs to be unobtrusive, a putter must still look like a putter to me.

Recently I have been buying old Ping putters just because I like the looks and the innovation that where built into these putters well before the use of computer aided design. Ping putters really were the first step in the evolution from blade putter the tech heavy heavy putters we have today. After spending enough time on forums, you start to hear about all the tech and what it can do for mishits and it starts to creep into your thinking. I saw the Cure putters were High MOI but still more blade like in shape, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Then, reading about the P2 grips, I figured why not go all the way with the tech and add a giant putter grip to a High MOI head, even though as I mentioned in the P2 thread, I never liked the Super Stroke grip I had and prefer to use Ping PP58 grips, which are one of the thinnest grips you'll find.

So, I got this putter together and while it give me excellent distance control, my accuracy was off. I have a strong arc putting motion and I believe that the High MOI head wants to stay square, so it wouldn't rotate back to square once I had taken it back on the inside arc. All my misses with it went right.

As for the P2 grip, the way the shaft runs up the back of the grip it does feel more upright. Again, coming from heel shafted, and I mean actual heel shafted where the shaft is literally at exiting the head at the heel, not even 1/2” towards the face, the feeling was very different. Heel shafted putters feel more flat in their lie angle and going from a heel shafted putter to the P2 grip felt like a huge jump in lie angle which placed my hands very high. Just not the feeling I'm looking for.

I guess I wanted to try and see if this particular putter tech was for me and I don't believe it is. I think this putter will work great for someone that has a Straight Back Straight Through putting stroke but for someone with a strong arc stroke like me, I doesn't work.

So, with all that said, who wants to give it a try?
