Been lurking since the end of the Summer, figured I'm overdue as far as signing up! Seems like a great community so I'm really looking forward to having some fun around here but also learning a lot. 

 

I'm 27 years old and I golfed a lot as a kid but when baseball got serious in high school I put golf on hold. Fast forward to last summer when I decided 'this is the Summer I'm finally gonna get good.' After 6-7 shitty rounds I decided that I'd rather spend my money on equipment and lessons as compared to chasing balls around, failing to break 100. 

 

I have been getting indoor lessons all winter long and hitting balls about twice a week. Just got a new set of clubs and I cant wait to get out there for the first time. My expectations are to be breaking 90 immediately as I hit the ball very far (~290 average with a driver---but still attacking down on the ball with an out-to-in path---so there is probably another 10 or so yards to be gained) and now can hit it with a nice tight draw---opposed to my old massive slice. 

 

Just cannot wait to get out there on the course with a bit of confidence! Looking forward to some great conversations around here! Cheers!

Welcome aboard man, I am in Central NJ (just south of princeton) and would love to tee it up some time this spring.  I play frequently with another member on here, Philly Golf Guy and we'd love to have you join us.

 

We play around Philly, South Jersey, and Central Jersey.

Welcome to the forum! Glad you stepped out of lurking. I think you're taking the right approach to getting your scores down so I wish you the best of luck.

 

When I was trying to break 90, I picked up a good quote that really helped me manage the course better: "you can play a whole round with an 8 iron and putter and still break 90. Distance isn't everything if you can manage a course."

Lukes--- I live in center city so I'm usually within an hour from town in all directions. I do spend weekends down by AC so that's where I'll be mostly come Summer weekends. I've got a good group of 5 or so of us that try and get out there but you know the drill, not every weekend/time works for everyone so having an extra duo to be able to call and get out there with never hurts!

STUD--- Knowing that I hit it far, I played all of my rounds WITHOUT any woods in my bag. Longest club was a 5-iron that went about 225 off the tee when I crushed it. So, I pretty much already prescribe to your 'breaking 90 with an 8-iron' theory. Knowing that I have the distance I really wanted to focus on 150 and in---because once the driver can stay in the same zip-code as the fairway I know I'll have a massive advantage shooting my second shot without having to go longer than an 8-9 iron. 

 

Now that I have a bit of a rhythm with my swing I'm really looking forward to the next major challange (not that my hopeful swing improvement isn't going to continue): course management!

Nice! My parents have a house in lbi so we're always going down there. My sister's husband used to be the assistant pro at Sea Oaks and my father in law is part of the ownership group at May's Landing.

 

My favorite course down there is Twisted Dune
