PlaidJacket
I think Spieth is ok. Now let me turn the conversation around to me. LOL I know you regulars have heard me say (or brag) that I'm a good putter. But over two rounds last week I putted horribly. Horribly! I had 4-5 three putts and missed several short ones of 3' or maybe less. Am I finished? Neh. I was certainly pissed but I knew it was only a passing thing that won't last. It's happened before. Spieth will get back in form and so will old Plaid. $hit happens. Kor.A.Door
He will get it figured out, his overall numbers the last few years prove that. He is in a slump (to use a baseball term), at the end of the year his numbers will likely be the same as always. It is early, and lots of Golf left for the year. Right now it is a struggle for him on the greens. Lefties are always in their Right Mind
Kenny B
If he putts poorly at the AT&T, does it start to mean something more? Or will it just be attributed to the small, very slopey, poa annua grass? He won last year by 4 shots. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

RickyBobby_PR
It is unfair to compare the history to these guys. It does hold water, because Seve is the one they compare short game too. Next it will be Phil. None of these guys are near as impressive as Seve, or Phil for that matter. Let's compare a semi truck to a Mini Cooper. That's the driver analogy. I could go on, but I'm sure it's baseless. I don't think Phil is all that impressive. For a player of his caliber, he has a problem. Well, Jordan Spieth finished T-3 in Houston. Nice warm up for Augusta. Did his putting improve? Nope! He went from #172 to #185 in Strokes Gained, and 3-putt avoidance he went from #68 to #128. I hope he gets his flatstick working this week. He needs it to contend. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Kenny B
Did the yips cost Jordan Spieth the Masters win? I guess he still hasn't figured out his putting problems. He made a great run at the Masters on Sunday, but if he could move up even a little bit from #185 in Strokes Gained Putting and #T153 in 3-putt Avoidance, he would have run away with another major. He is playing great tee-to-green, but his putter is failing him. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

cnosil
Probably more confidence now rather than techiqueProbably more technique in my opinion. The announcers indicated on one of the broadcasts that he had found something with his stroke but he would say what it was When I mention technique I include things like stance as well. Read some comments on Rory that on Sunday he was standing closer to the ball than he was at Bay Hill. The smallest change for these guys impacts the putters path and as pressure builds the mistakes start to become apparent. RickyBobby_PR
I still don't think he has the yips and that it's more of a setup issue that he hasn't fixed fully. He is a left handed person who plays golf right handed and iirc is left eye dominant. This cause some alignment/setup issues for him and why he is a better long putter than short putter. I don't think it was his putter that cost him another masters as much as it was a poor fri and sat tee to green Driver: PXG 0811 X+ Proto w/UST Helium 5F4 Wood: TaylorMade M5 5W w/Accra TZ5 +1/2”, TaylorMade Sim 3W w/Aldila rogue white Hybrid: PXG Gen2 22* w/AD hybrid Irons: PXG Gen3 0311T w/Nippon modus 120 Wedges: TaylorMade MG2 50*, Tiger grind 56/60 Putter: Scotty Caemeron Super Rat1 Ball: Titleist Prov1

Kenny B
Here I am back on the Jordan Spieth putting yips bandwagon, and no one has said "yips" yet. Early in the year after Hawaii I could understand that he was missing putts that he didn't use to miss. He'd figure it out. Well, he hasn't yet. People have said that it's in his setup. It's been two months since the Masters after which he was #185 in Stroked Gained Putting and #153 in 3-Putt Avoidance. Currently, he is #186 in Strokes Gained and #159 in 3-Putt avoidance. Hasn't changed in the last 2 months. It's not his setup. If it was his setup, he would have changed it, and it would either be better or worse. He has a problem. He's missing putts right and left. I find it hard to watch him on the green. I'm a Spieth fan, and I'm worried that he is in such a bad place right now that he has no chance in any tournament this year, let alone a major. I was hoping that he would win the PGA and get the Grand Slam, but this is not good. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Kenny B
A lot of talk about Jordan Spieth this week as he starts the new year. I'm sure the conversation will continue on this week in the Sony Open thread depending on how well he does, but I've been tracking his stats for the last couple of years. 2017 Strokes Gained ranking 42 3-Putt Avoidance ranking 7 Total Putting 68 In 2018 it's a different story Strokes Gained ranking 123 3-Putt Avoidance ranking 141 Total Putting 118 He improved late in 2018 over early 2018, but the rest of his game requires a good short game, and he hasn't demonstrated that recently. Good luck this week playing with Gary Woodland and Bryson D' “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
