STUDque
https://mygolfspy.com/2018-pga-show-recap/ Having never been, I thought Tony's recap provided a valuable glimpse into a deteriorating trade show. I had always assumed it was this magical wonderland of all things golf with everyone in attendance. While I'm sure it is still a great experience, I tend to agree with his recommendations for change. As we all know, the golf community can be resistant to change so I'd be surprised to see anything happen anytime soon. I would love to see MGS issue awards at some point too. Best in Show, Best Booth, Best New OEM, Best Product to name a few. I think that would be a fun recap to future PGA shows as a tool to build hype leading into Most Wanted results. Sent from carrier pigeon using MyGolfSpy Stud, I think that's a great idea not only to award innovation but it also creates a higher level of visibility for MGS.. As to the show attendance/exhibits. Many industry shows have been on a downturn for years. - with possibly the exception of CES. The cost of these shows is extremely high. chemclub
I really liked the recap - especially the new ideas around making single-rider carts and the EnCore ball. Single-rider carts would speed play. That said, I am not sure the design of the Ellwee single-rider is the solution. My experience playing behind two-rider carts is some old fart who ambles to and from his ball. Do you think that guy can throw a leg over the motorcycle-type seat in the Ellwee? If the athleticism in his golf swing is any indication... The answer is no. I'm not sure why they didn't design it like those motorized grocery cart scooter seats. Were they trying to go for the 'cool' ATV look? Golfspy_CG2
it was a great read, and I added my thoughts in the Blog comments. I wouldn't say the show is deteriorating. But having only been there 4 times, I don't have as many years to compare it to as Adam and Tony do. But I think it remains very strong, judging by the attendance the years I've been and the demo day crowds. I do agree that every show, event needs to evaluate itself on a year to year bais and see what need to be changed, freshened up, added or deleted. I'll leave that to those who are a lot smarter than I am, but I certainly wouldn't oppose a rotating site of Orlando, Vegas and San Diego for example, and anything that can make it easier for medium and small companies to attend can only help. Maybe they could have options like a step-through type and the ATV type? Were they trying to go for the 'cool' ATV look? I agree that single-rider carts would speed play and am hoping for more options that eventually take hold. I remember a few years back when the Segway golf cart was starting to make an appearance at courses and thought that it was a great idea. Unfortunately, those disappeared almost as quickly as they were introduced and I never got a chance to try one out. I hope all these single-rider options don't go the same way as the Segway and we start seeing them at local courses.
