cksurfdude 8,020
Not sure how you can correlate lie angle to player ability. Clubs are fit to the player. If a club is too upright when the player takes his stance the toe will come off the ground and close the face making pulls more likely. Too flat and the heel comes up and the face points right. There is no standard for lie angles from club model to club model much less from manufacturer to manufacturer. See this demonstration, when a player lowers and raises the handle to setup to the ball. The lie angle doesn't change, just how the club is positioned https://www.instagram.com/p/BfIvm8jF0iz/ Speaking in generalities I would say the draw bias if hybrids is more related to the head design to counter the fade most players have with longer irons. From what I remember when looking at hybrids a while ago most had a closed face angle. As hybrids have become more popular you are seeing more models with a square face. Yes - "Pro" model hybrids generally have an open face angle compared to the standard/non-pro versions (and generally come with a heavier shaft, too). TBT 2,371
I have been back and forth on hybrids I hated them for awhile, then I got a set of Bridgestone J40 hybrids...a 2 and a 4 and those were "magic wands"...nothing but high straight shots with them. PMookie 12,568
I am ready to get to Austin in the next few months and go through a fitting for the upcoming Edel driving iron. foreverdank 9
I feel I have given hybrids enough of a chance but these things don't work for me. I'm at a loss as to why. Perhaps I just need a fitting but I've tried small head hybrids; larger, almost fairway wood sized hybrids; both stiff and regular flex shafts and I've not found one that I am consistent and fully confident in. I have full confidence in my 3-wood as well as my 4-Iron, but that spot in the bag between the two I'm lost. How many of you have switched from a hybrid to one of the new driving/fli hi irons that seem to have become pretty popular in the last few seasons? For now, I'm just shafting up the 3-Iron again and it's going back in the bag. NiftyNiblick 1,971
I'm with foreverdank. When hybrids didn't like my game, a lofted fairway wood and a forgiving driving iron worked out best for me. Nothing wrong with hybrids, of course, but if they're always going to be fighting you, there are alternatives. We played a long time before TaylorMade introduced those orange FireSole Rescues.

Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy The problem, Foz, is that we're supposed to do those things to play a "golf shot," not to hit a straightforward routine shot. My perpetual gripe about modern equipment--what good is advanced technology if they can't do much about fit? Fit isn't just what shaft to choose from launch monitor data. Fit is correct lie and face angles...first. The major OEMs have no interest in following the lead of boutique clubmakers who do offer changes to lie and face angles...and loft as well.
