Finally got to hit these yesterday and the G400 is getting a little nervous! The feel and sound are great.

What do you think of the ATMOS Red.  I have the same iron shafts as you, so I am curious.

The best feeling shaft imo. I have a very aggressive transition and she is so stable don't matter how hard I go after it. The Red and Blue were so close in spin and launch for me. I went with the Red because most people will benefit with a little more spin and a higher launch.

Played my first round with my new F8+ yesterday. I have it weight forward and stuck a Fujikura Pro 2.0 shaft on it.

Best drive of the day: Had 30 yards left on a slightly uphill 335 yard par 4. That's smokin' it for me. Looked at the face after I hit it and the strike was half a ball high on the face and half a ball toey. As the day went on it seemed like that was the sweet spot on the face for me. Obviously I wasn't using any sort of measuring tool, but it seemed like the ball had very low spin when I hit it there.

Worst drive of the day: Tie between the 3-in-a-row I topped about 170 yards down the fairway from the same tee. Good, tight dispersion.  ;)

It was the first round of the year, so the operator was a little rusty and certainly didn't use the tool with distinction on every swing. It felt solid throughout the face, though, and mishits that weren't those 3 extreme tops still went a ways and were only 10 or so yards off the fairway (my misses are slight pushes and slingy hooks).

I have to add that the sound is very cool. I liked it when i demo'd it, but I loved it outdoors and as compared to everyone else's strikes. Such a solid thump.

Sorry for the questions, but do you normally play a 10.5 and opted for the 9 degree G400 because of how high the driver launches the ball or do you normally play 9 degree lofted drivers?

So I choked down on my driver about an inch today. I don't know exactly how long my driver plays, but my early (1 round) analysis is that I like it! So much more control and I hit center way more than I had been.

... So much research has gone into this and for the vast majority, a shorter driver will produce more distance and better accuracy. Considering every 1/4" you miss the center you lose 5-7 yds, it certainly makes sense that missing by 3/4-1" which is pretty normal, you can be losing up to 25 yards. I have put some version of "45+" is too long for the majority of players" and Cobra finally started offering a custom order Tour Version at 44.5". I know I hit the ball farther at 44.25" than I do at 45" plus and at 65 I need all the length I can get. Good luck with your new playing length! ... although you won't need it.  ;)

Specifically remember Bubba saying he had ping build him a long drive club and he was hitting his 44.5” further.

The Nakashima I had two years ago I got with a 47” shaft... I hit the longest, non-wind aided drive I've ever hit with it, but that was ONE out of hundreds I hit. Overall length improved when I went back to 45”... I never hit a beast drive again, but consistency improved greatly with the shorter shaft.

I'm a huge believer now. Sure, on those ones where I nut it without choking down I crush it, but more times than not I just end up out of the fairway.

  • 2 weeks later...

... Good video, thanks for sharing. I also find the face of the F8+ a little harder than previous Cobra drivers unless hit dead center. Not sure I have hit another driver that gives such instant feedback and you definitely know when you center one. Of course the mishits are deceptively long compared to how it feels, especially high on the face where I have hit a few bombs that felt like I was gonna lose distance. I will add the F8 face has a softer feel.

Gonna be interesting to see what he ends up with in the bag. The F8+ looked like it was more accurate than the G400 was, and his average distance was up there too!

Great review Chisag, I have the Aldila Rogue Black in my Cobra King and also have a a Paderson Kinetix imrt with Cobra adapter. I guess this means when I get the F8, I'll have 3 choices for my shaft.

Played Thursday with the F8 tour length driver and it is the best driver I have had in quite some time. Sounds great, feels great and goes for ever with a nice piercing trajectory. I don't think you can make a bad choice with this club.
