Impulse Purchases?

I have to admit I have on several occasions. However I have gotten much better and really think out most all my purchases. Case and point I have $100 to the local shop and have been in twice recently and walked out with nothing. I have ideas what I want but just haven't found the right thing to pull the trigger on

I was back at GG yesterday with their coupons in my back pocket. Was hoping that Odyssey used O Works putter was still there. Nope some other lefty grabbed it. They had a couple of other used putters that were ok but had my heart and cash set on that putter. Oh well will keep the powder dry for the next trip.

Bought some 2017 Chrome Soft X for $31 yesterday. Gonna see if it feels the same as the non-x but spin less. DTC companies, after shipping, are around the same price so why the hell not? Next on my list is a box of MTBs and maybe I'll give the TP5/x another shot. Haven't tried the non-x -- but the tp5x was a little firm feeling off the putter and wedges if I remember correctly.

I have a bad (but I guess good) habit about doing this. Once I find something, I always spend forever trying to find the cheapest price or cashback options or whatever else. I'm all about saving that dough.

Even with my penchant for budget clubs I'll still agonize over a purchase before pulling the trigger. Right now I am trying to decide if I will continue to fight with my 3 and 4 hybrids or try something else.

A couple of years ago I had an hour to kill before a meeting so I went to a local Golftown to kill some time.  I ended up trying different putters and found an Odyssey seemed to work best.  Putts of 10-15' rolled in one after the other and I walked out with it even though I had done a putter fitting e few months earlier and my current putter was still the best for me.

 

Historically I have never gotten along with inserts.  About 8 years ago I was given an Odyssey which I had no consistency with so I passed it along to my father.  Even knowing this I had visions of saving multiple strokes per round.  Practicing with the new stick was great until I started playing with it on the course, I never three putted so much.  The putter rolled straight but I had no consistency with distance leaving putts way short or blowing them by the hole.  Looking back when I practiced with the new putter it took a couple of putts to dial in distance, this doesn't work on course.

 

I should have known better but I still fell for the new toy looking better and visions of grandeur.  The worst part is I have much bigger issues with other parts of my game while putting is by far my best aspect.  Since then I try to remember this when walking in to a golf store and have not walked out with a new club since.

I think they make the putting greens where the ball funnels towards the hole.
