Bucky CC
Does anyone have experience going through an iron fitting with a club other than a 6 iron? The course I play 90% of my rounds at is more of a driver/wedge course. I typically use my 6 iron only 1-3 times per round. I understand using a 6 for fittings made sense when everyone carried 3-PW in their bags, but I've been using hybrids in place of my 3 and 4 irons for years. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to get fit for a brand new set using a club I sometimes go an entire round without using. Thoughts or suggestions? The 6 iron is more a baseline representation for the irons being fitted to you, not the entire bag. In past fittings, if I were interested in hybrids as a substitution for the long irons, then I would test them out during a fitting or demo day. Same for the driver, wedges and putter. Now after the fitting, with the entire bag setup, it would be a good idea to go back to your fitter to make sure your gaping is consistent or the way you want it. DPattGolf
I have always gone off of 7 iron. If your working with someone who is up for it you really should do it with multiple irons (if not all of them) in a set. * Staff Professional* Driver: Stealth Plus+ (7.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Black 6X Tipped 1" 3 Wood: Stealth Plus+ (14.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Blue 7x Tipped 1" Driving Iron: P790 UDI 2 iron - HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 100 6.5 4 Iron: P790 - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (5-7) P7MC - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (8-P) P7MB - KBS C-Taper 130 X Wedges: MG3 Black 50.09 / 55.11 - KBS TOUR FLT 130 X 60* Wedge: High Toe Raw - KBS Tour 130 X Putter: Custom Black ER2 or Custom Black Del Monte Bag: FlexTech Stand Bag Glove: Tour Preferred Glove Ball: TP5X #11 RangeFinder: R1 Smart Rangefinder Instagram: @dpattgolf
Rtracymog
Most companies use a 7 iron. Bucky CC
The last time I was fit was in 2014 and all brands used 6-irons except for Ping. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of places in the Milwaukee, WI area that offer multiple brand fittings outside of Golf Galaxy. Right now I'm leaning towards the 90 minute drive down to Chicago to visit Club Champion rather than go the GG route. cnosil
Iron fitting at Club Champion was a 6 iron. I think it fits nicely between the long iron and short irons to give a good representation for how you will hit both. ED13
I asked this question about using a 6 iron at TXG in Toronto this week. Response was that shorter irons can hide flaws in the swing and the 6 iron gave a better representation of the swing and numbers used for the fitting. Derek666
I always start with 6 or 7 iron but once i narrow it down to a few choices i'd never buy without trying the same setup in a long iron and short iron, makes no sense otherwise!
