Didn't she run through a couple of coaches? Sounds like Wie without the injuries.

She had made some big changes with equipment, coaches, caddies, last year.

Going to PXG, changing her swing, and hiring a new caddie and coach sure didn't help much. I enjoyed watching her play in 2016 at the KIA Classic....

Maybe she should not over analyze everything and just play golf.  That's what got her there.

I've got to think parents come into the equation somewhere in this mess.  She really needs to keep them away from her golf career, but I think it may be too late for that.  I don't know that she'll ever be what she was as long as they are still making some decisions and she keeps changing things around.

Could be as simple as job burn out. Shes been going hard @ it since a kid. Lot of pressure on her to preform

A lot of changes both equipment and personnel plus playing at that high of a level does take a lot out of a person. I agree with pretty much what everyone else has previously said. I'm sure she will return to form soon.

Lydia Ko was and continues to be a player I like to see on the leaderboard.  There's the saying--if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.   From as near as I could tell, Lydia's game wasn't broke, so I'm not sure what the heck she was trying to fix with all her changes.   Like others, I trust that she will win again and be a regular on the leaderboard.

Lydia Ko has lost her accuracy in both fairways and greens hit.  Couple that with the fact that she isn't one of the longest hitters on tour, and it's not surprising that her world ranking is slipping.

Like others have said. To many changes in such a short time span. And it looks like she is trying to find distance in her game and it just isn't there for her. Give her time to settle in with the changes and she'll be back on top. Just to much talent to keep her down.

A very good friend was one of the caddies she blew through last year. He didnt share a lot of details.

 

But it is very clear her parents (father mostly) were the driving forces behind all the changes, especially the equipment. Changes she did not want ti make. Also they dictate her practice schedule and at times it was past the point of burnout or exhaustion.

 

Lets say while working with the No. 1 player in the world had some perks, he wasn't devastated when he was told ti move on.

I'm not surprised since I hear that about a number of Korean LPGA players. Wie was another example of parental interference or dominance.

Really, it's kind of a trend with a lot of the top ranked LPGA players trending down after a while. I remember when Tseng won a lot and now I don't know if she's even playing. There's that other one with the slow swing, can't remember her name but likewise not as prevalent now, Lewis; the list goes on.

 

I'd be interested in an article addressing staying power on the LPGA. Is it any different than the other tours (I think it is) and if so, why?

 

As for Ko, she's growing up and is dealing with a lot more than her golf game. When winning doesn't come as easy, it's interesting to see how each player tries to get it back. Ko apparently goes through equipment, caddies and swing coaches fairly quickly, I guess not finding what she's looking for yet.

She used to play Callaway, she got “bought out” by PXG, and clearly that equipment is not very good for her. She needs to switch back.

Sure the amount of changes she made may have an effect on her not winning but her performance last season doesn't reflect a bad year just one where she didn't win.

 

One of the things that i think have contributed is the emergence of Ariya Jutanugarn and the solid play of several others on tour. 

 

I think she will be just fine and will probably win 2-3 times this year and maybe even another major.

She was only 2 strokes off the lead yesterday to end the day. Currently not tee'd off yet and is 6 strikes behind Kerr who is -10 for the tourney with 5 holes to go for today.

She is two under so far today, all pars with 2 birds.

Today she is shaving the edges of the holes.

There is nothing wrong with her. She was very young when she turned pro. She had nothing to gauge anything against, and the confidence and bravado of a head strong teen.. She's a few years in now.... she knows how good the rest of the women are, now. She'll be fine with a bit more age and experience.

100% agree on Wie. The fact that she suddenly improved after reaching her later twenties and gaining a bit more independence from her parents is very telling. Getting out of that cloud must make a night and day difference when it comes to enjoying the game and playing the mental strategy that works best for you.

Did she really improve though? Granted she has been injury stricken a lot but she only had 3 wins since 2014 with 2 coming in 2014. She has been inconsistent every year. She went from 2010-2014 without a win.

I think her parents were causing some trouble. From late 2016 and into 2017 it was a big talking point.

 

I would imagine that plays a huge part in success vs struggles. When you hit a downturn and the parents ride you and cause friction in your professional relationships… well.. it's not a recipe for success. Having that weigh on your every shot… yikes.

 

I hope she can pull it back together – I like her. For a kid, she is incredible!

It's a shame too. She has the talent to win a lot but imo the lack of competition in junior golf due to the way her parents handled her and her career, then injuries followed by going to Stanford while trying to play on tour followed by more injuries and what seems like internet golfer tweaking if the swing she hasn't lived up to the potential. She is still relatively young especially when you look at what Kerr is doing on tour there's still a chance she can run off some wins
