tha_carter7
Headed out to Bandon in a few weeks and was looking into getting a GPS for my bag while in flight. Anyone have any experience with these? Only horror story I have is AA breaking my driver shaft so now I take off the heads when I fly. I just don't want to lose my sticks before I play Bandon...that would suck haha. Don't worry, I'm not flying United either haha Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Driver: 915 D3 10.5* - Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana S+ Blue 60 3 Wood: Vapor Fly 15* - Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana S+ Blue 70 Hybrid: 712U 3 Iron - TT Dynamic Gold S300 Irons: 714 AP2 4-P - TT Dynamic Gold S300 Wedge: BV Raw Black SM5 52*.12*F, 56*.14*F, 60*.08*M - TT Dynamic Gold W Flex Putter: 33" Cameron & Crown 6M Futura - Super Stroke 3.0 Slim Ball: ProV1
PlaidJacket
Ship them by FedEx or UPS. Probably cheaper than ShipSticks too. MGoBlue100
I've never used a 'tile" or other tag on or in my bag. I do fly Delta pretty much exclusively, and while they're not that great, they do use RFID bag tags, so through their app, you can literally see the location of your bag. In addition, they send you text msgs that your bag has been loaded, unloaded, and delivered to the carousel. Works pretty well. Of course, if some baggage monkey decides to take your sticks home, you'll need something more substantial. Have fun at Bandon! Lots of pictures! "Where'd it go?" "Right in the Lumberyard..." HardcoreLooper
Please review if you pick one up. I haven't flown with my clubs in about a year, and I took my chances with no GPS puck. tony@CIC
Somewhat related - I wish I had one on my rangefinders. My wife and I seem to lose one every year. If Bushnell and Nikon, etc. are reading this - why not embed one in your RF's - it be a real selling point. hckymeyer
Just curious, isn't anything that is going to be broadcasting a GPS signal while in air against FAA regulations? tha_carter7
Dunno if GPS on a plane is against regulations. I've read that some devices "turn off" by sensing when the plane is taking off and "wake up" when it lands. The industry (golf & airline) should develop something that provides some relief during this anxiety inducing process. I've never lost my clubs (or a bag for that matter..knock on wood) but when you're checking a bag that essentially is worth $2,500, you want some insurance. I don't use UPS/FedEx/ShipSticks b/c I'm flying from another place in which I need my clubs. Biggest problem with ShipSticks is the time in which you are without your clubs. It's like a catch22 - I want my clubs to be safe and in my hands, but also dont want them to fly on an airplane haha. cksurfdude
OK, so perusing the web it appears to me that a lot of the GPS Tracker devices use a cellular connection .. and so require a monthly, or at least a one-time, extra fee.... Rfid trackers only give you location when you have a reader within a certain proximity of the tag
