pulledabill
Been playing midsize with extra wrap for the last 1.5 years at suggestion of pro at range. Loved them at first but I really think it wears on my hands and I struggle to hang on to club at times especially longer clubs. Bit concerned about going back but I hope it will be confidence boost as well besides what I think might be better fit regardless of what fitting charts might say. 808nation
I too struggled a bit with my longer irons with my midsize grips. I've used standard grips all my life and recently been using midsize for about 6 month (Golf Pride MCC+4) I loved them for awhile and felt really nice in my hands, even though I have smaller hands, but I felt I had a harder time cocking my wrist at the top. I didn't want to change back to standard size grips so I purchased Golf Pride MCC+4 in standard size with 2 extra wraps and they are really nice, better feel at the top and through the swing. PING Apologist #9
I personally went right into mid-sized grips from standard. Despite only standing 5'10" on a good day, I've always had larger hands-at least my fingers are fatter than normal any way. I fit into an XL glove usually, and I have an old, albeit severe injury to my left arm and wrist that tends to curtail the "normal" wrist action required for the lag and whip required for a powerful golf swing-or any other swing for that mater, i.e.: baseball/softball, tennis, etc. I also noticed that having mid-flex graphite shafts for me was a total positive since they are less stress on my left wrist. I've read a few threads in here about grip sizes and, well, results may vary... My humble advice would be to both of you is two-fold: Go get fitted and only play what feels most comfortable to YOU! And or experiment with grips until you arrive at a comfortable setting. Hell, if it feels comfortable, you'll gain confidence, and with confidence, you'll gain consistency and ultimately controllable power. Spot-on for me too brother for the smaller grips. I also need fatter/thicker steering wheels in my rigs. Darned arthritis... mooremikea
Regardless of hand size pick the grip that feels best in your hand and grip pressure can be consistent throughout the swing. It seems like the traditional thought of larger grips reducing the amount of hand action is slowly going away. If a standard grip feels more comfortable and you don't feel like you are loosing the club then go for it. Flipper554
Fitting charts are a good starting point, but you have to go with what is most comfortable for you. I don't have huge hands but have long fingers, midsize feels comfortable for me even though the fit chart says I should be using regular. I also have a lot of trouble finding gloves that fit so most times I don't wear one. What were they trying to fix?And no law is written saying you have to have the same grip thru out your bag. That's just the ocd in us lol. I have 3 sizes on my but all the same brand. Mix and match to find a happy median. Good luck in your hunt. ED13
I had always used standard grips until a few years ago I tried oversize. Night and day for me, I didn't realize how much tighter I held the club with standard size grips. Flow of the swing felt better immediately. Wish I hadn't been lazy all those years and experimented more. ole gray
I had my driver grip changed from a Jumbo down to a midsize and I think it might have been a huge mistake. I have been hitting my driver really well recently. I was thinking dropping down to a smaller size would help me with releasing the club a bit more and gain a few more yards. Well I released it alright, all over the course! I'll be changing back to my comfort zone asap albeit a bit shorter however with better control. I did the same by switching to a midsize from a standard. Had to buy a new weight for the driver head to bring the seeing weight back to where I needed it.
