Gratuitous Picture Thread - PXG 0311 GEN 2 Irons

I love all the blog comments complaining about how PXG is ruining golf. I haven't seen any significant negative impact on the game of golf over the last three years. Certainly nothing that I can ascribe to PXG.

Just For reference what irons do u visually like??

Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

AP2, MP18 MB, and SC. MP54. MP23. Apex forged.

These PxG irons remind of the the Cleveland Hi-Bore Driver with the big step. So I guess these just aren't visually appealing to me, but that's Golf. I feel the same about long in a lot of their offerings as well. Who knows maybe they look better in person than they do in photos.

Gotcha. I don't know if you have ever had a PXG in hand before but that step your talking about isn't nearly as big as you think on the P or T models. I thought the same thing until I got a chance to demo Gen 1 last summer. But nothing wrong if they don't float your boat

Not to be a podcast spoiler (which is a great listen by the way)

The embargo on the clubs was still in affect at the time, and no pictures could be taken.

ruining golf?  that's preposterous...

they're just a company that makes golf clubs... I'd be curious to hear what the rationale is behind this.  Yes, they are high-end clubs, but is Porsche "ruining" the auto industry?  The objective is still to get the ball into the hole in as fewest strokes as possible using whatever equipment you decide on... Some people use PXG and some use XYZ...who cares...

Sometimes I just can't help but to shake my head in disbelief...

Those irons are smokin.  I need to find to hit up one of the few fitters here that carry them or find the fitting van to get some time with these. I could see them in my bag over anything on the american market.

Just pure Jealously or envy,  in most cases i'd say.

You nailed it Rob. It's the “If I can't have it I'll bash it” crowd.

And agree with Stroker's automotive comparison. Does anyone “need” a Porsche? Nope, but if you want one and can afford it more power to you.

I wish I could afford these so I could try them. Alas, I can't, so I will admire them from afar.

The car comparison is a little bit of a stretch, but people saying they're ruining golf is pretty silly. I hit the first gen and they feel pretty good off the mat at my fitter's shop, but not enough to warrant the price for me. I can justify the premium for something like a Porsche, not an iron.

I suppose the car comparison was just to bring out the utility of the "tool" - a car is intended to get you from point A to point B.  Some choose to do it one way, others choose to do it another...but whether it's a Porsche or a Bug, at the end of the day it gets you from here to there.  Just like a golf club is intended to get the ball from starting point to the hole...no matter what "tool" you choose to do it with.

BTW - just because you pay thousands (yes, more than 1) for a set of irons doesn't mean anything - you still need the game. Nothing I love more than to show up with my "what-the-hell-single-length-irons" and whoop up on mister-I-got-my-new-fancy-shmancy-irons...  :)

It really is amazing. But I'm sure you've read the comments on the blog article. PXG is not driving up the cost of clubs from other manufacturers. Show me some proof of this. And while you're at it, show me that people who are not playing golf because of the cost (and yes, I'm willing to believe that some people are not playing golf because of the cost) are looking at the cost of PXG clubs and saying, "nope, not the game for me."

Honestly, it seems like PXG is pushing the technology, forcing all OEMs to improve.
