Where’d the 2 Wood go?

Forget rolling back the ball. Roll back the driver to 400cc..

It seems like most tour pros are using the 430 or 440cc option, so rolling back the driver might not be that effective...

The "two-woods" can be found in the bargain rack at Goodwill. As a lefty, it's my go-to place for scrounging. About 18 months ago I found an old Penick metal driver. Smaller head but taller face than my 3 wood, 12*, stiff steel shaft. I hit it better off the deck than my 3w or hybrid's, and it pretty much keeps up with most of my buddies off the tee. I still pull my Cleveland Hi-Bore when I can, but I play a bunch of courses where the Penick is perfect. I don't care what name it has on it, what it looks like, or how old it is. I just want it to work. For $1.99, you can't beat it.

More cc's usually results in a taller face. A taller face usually results in the sweet spot being raised which is less than ideal for a club that is intended to be hit off the deck.

We go from ~ 200cc fairways all the way up to 430-460cc

Nothing in between.

The size difference between your hybrid and fairways aren't that big. Why not fill that gap with 300cc's or so?

You can get irons of various sizes ranging from 15° to 45°... Wedges 46° - 64°, hybrids of different shapes and lofts., fairways too. But only 2-3 size options for a driver? Only a very slim few smaller than 430? There is an unaccounted for spot in that 220-429cc range.

I'd probably have more use for a 2 wood over a 4 wedge set

Forget rolling back the ball. Roll back the driver to 400cc..

I'd like to see them roll back the pros drivers to 300cc. That's still twice as big as most three woods but would require better ball striking to get the big numbers.

Gotcha.

Well I think he meant 3 woods are around 150ish, depending on brand

Shanks I think we see these come around every so often. Usually a higher lofted smaller headed driver. I know you can get one from Hireko called the THRIVER. But as far as a regular 2 wood, I do not think you will see this any more.

FYI, I have a Thriver from Hireko, however it's a 460cc head on a short shaft.

Wishon also offers a 919 FW driver, and you can have it built to the length you choose. Tom retired, however I think his line was bought by Sterling Golf. A little digging and the OP can find his gold.

Gotcha.

Yes that's what I was referring to. I think my 3 wood is about 165cc, which I believe is pretty average for the newer clubs.
