Worst Balls Ever

Love the name of this Post!  For me it will always be anything Pinnacle. Though I always think of pickles when I see it written out. So, I guess that makes them less bad?

I vote for pinnacle and top flite but they were the ball I used when I first started playing in the 80s. On another note I watch a guy today trying to hit a Taylormade TP5 and it looked like he was hitting a rock with no dimples. His swing was way to slow to hit that ball.

They were a give outs at an charity golf tournament.

 

Its ... bad.  BUT it's got five star rating on Amazon for anyone interested in trying them out.

I found a ball in my shag bag that I found on the course and boy oh boy does it ever make a clicking sound. Its probably the worst ball I've ever used and it's a top flite

Gotta say the Titleist Velocity is near the top of my list. They seem to find me whenever I am hunting in the trees. Each time I think it can't possibly be as bad as I remember and it always is. Amen to the countless votes for Nitros and anything TF (minus the Gamer maybe). Classic cases of getting what you pay for! I miss the old TP Reds and the original Pentas.

I play in a scramble every year where participants get grab bags that contain no-name balls with a Michelob Light logo on them. I've accidentally hit rocks in crappy sand traps that feel softer than those things.

Funny how many of the balls mentioned I use to play a lot of when I started and now can't stand.

My wife loves playing these Tommy Armour Prada golf balls that match her set. Yes it's a women's ball, but I got one the other day for kicks and wow it felt awful.

Another vote for the Callaway Warbird! Find them everywhere on the course

When I first started playing Roger Dunn had a brand called Cougar that was really cheap. I stocked up on them and didn't realize how bad they were until I hit a Top Flight XL.

 

Those things were like rocks compared to Top Flight, and Top Flights are pretty bad themselves.

Back in the 80s, Wilson (Ultra) and Spalding (Molitor) seemed to engage each other in a race to the bottom to make the hardest, worst-feeling, jaw rattling but premium priced ball. And yes, I put up the Ultra because I'd blocked the Molitor from my memory. If you wanted to split a persimmon driver, just hit a few Molitors with it. I'm surprised that Bob Molitor (Spalding chemist, came up with the cover formula for the first Top Flites) let Spalding put his name on that ball. In fact, I'm surprised that Paul Molitor (former Brewers 3rd baseman, current Twins manager) didn't sue Spalding because that ball was just so bad.

Not the worst ball ever, but perhaps the ball I most looked forward to and then was disappointed by: the Snell MTB Red

 

Thought this was going to be my dream ball in terms of price an performance, but this ball gets absolutely murdered in the wind and made it completely unplayable for me.

Obviously any of the Top Flight, Pinnacle, etc. will be complete crap, but as far as a premium ball goes I always thought the Nike 20xi, RZN or whatever they were called were absolute junk.

I have this old sleeve of balls in my office. It says EXTRA CARRY TOP-FLITE PLUS THE LONGEST BALLS. We take them out into the shop when we are bored and see who can bounce one off the concrete floor hard enough to hit the ceiling which is about 26 ft. It is the only thing they are good for!
